Wraps for trash (also add stunning fist to build? Any room in APs for tactics enhancements?), picks for bosses?

    Some questions:

I have been looking at the few new stunning builds popping up and was wondering if this one could be adapted to crank up the stuns for trash. *Thing is I'd have to reallocate some APs to stunning enhamcements, and if want to also add stunning fist then reallocate a feat to stunning fist and some build points into wisdom. *Does that sound like a viable approach (and if so, whats the best reshuffling of enhancements and which feat to give up), Or is that trying to do too much? (does the cost outweigh the benefit?)*

I have never run up a human or helf, what do you find yourself using human versatility for?

With the dps and burst dps and sa damage, you find yourself taking aggro? *Do you run with some threat reduction gear or just end up hate tanking at times?

What bows do you recommend running with? (I have an exploiter but don't do much ranged so all I use is a silver bow, I imagine I should try to craft a lit2 bow, bit anything else I should have or grind for)?

The AP question I am going to hold off on answering until U9 comes out and I decide which way to go for weapons. If you put a stunner in your off hand you really won't need the tactics enhancements.

I hit Human Versatility Damage Boost and Haste Boost IV at the same time (cooldowns are not linked, and I hit both buttons with one finger) as I am running between fights, usually before I hit Many Shot.

You will take aggro often. For me personally I am fortunate to run with some really skilled players, and almost all trash in the epics we run is held, stoned or stunned, and therefore aggro is not an issue. On bosses we often use tanks built around hate, and/or just use smart play in managing DPS. The Helves Angel can tank in a pinch, but it is not designed to main tank Horoth on elite.

I use an Epic Thornlord. A Lightning Strike II bow is fine to use as well.

    Thumbs up

Yep i finally rolled me one of these without pala though and im loving it its lvl 9 i took khopesh though at 6 and went thoughness at 7 then power attack at 8 i could not see the use in PA before as u aint hitting very good i love it though it screwed my bard over for sure and i was very happy with him.

1 question though whats the bab at 20 im thinking for manyshot if i dont get 16+ it seems worthless alrdy just need a confirm to it.

I went cleric dilli and im loving it all the way will LR when i hit 20 but thats quite a way still.

Thx Dark for a really awesome build

Playing around levelling one of these at the moment and had a quick question.

Does anyone know if I take Zen Archery (so longbows are a Ki weapon) would this allow me to use the full monk BAB when using them or is this limited to unarmed only? Also, would this allow me to hit manyshot and (as long as I had the Ki) cycle through the elemental attacks or do these not work for a ranged weapon?

It has been a while since I tested Zen Archery, but I believe you do get the monk BaB - but you will have to verify. The strikes do not work with ranged.

Default Already done before the helf

This build was already out there in the form of the same 12 6 2 for elves which can in fact obtain a higher straight dps from racial enhancements. There is the gain of a helf dillentante, but of course that's the same as with any helf build (can amount to more sneak attack damage than the elf of course .. if you are getting it.

Further I will point out grodon's Meathelmet build which he uses enhancement switching to obtain stalwart defender for tanking. Especially with the new intim, firing a fighter haste boosted many shot at a boss just after you intim is excellent hate generation especially with the claw set.

    Another comment drop

    10. F: Stunning Blow or the pally past life

and you can get another +5 to ac from taking combat expertise. If you also take into account the echrono set (op already listed) and a few other ac boosting pieces of gear you can tank tods etc without getting hit too much. Personally, ive already estimated this build could push mid 80s ac about 8 months ago (with elf).

ONCE AGAIN! nothing new so no kudos from me.

    ps.

This build has been around for quite some time yet again .. cant emphasize this enough.

Ya I agree, it's been around long enough. Nothing new to see here, keep moving children.

Also, suggesting CE on a build not designed for AC? Brilliant.

A build with a monk splash can obtain AC even without the CE the build of the OP is quite able to obtain a decent AC.

I have a bard which isnt particularly an AC build that can obtain a 79 AC as a helf.

One of monk's benefits is the ac.

And sorry the change that he called new was the AA addition to the original monster build, which im saying is also not new. I mostly decided to add in a comment since the original *poster* of the build posted something which does not realize the monster AAs full diversity potential.

Let me know how that 79 AC works for you in epics.

    TROLLs!!! both of you
The split HAS been around and the OP acknowledged that. However, the breakdown and rationale has not. So Kudos from me.
    I love this build

As a side thought some one above me mentioned managing agro with manny shot. If you get a build that has a least 6 monk and are dark monk and you pick up Ninja you get the shadow walk which makes you invisible. After you are done with many shot you can go invisible I believe but I have yet to test it. Only problem is you don't get ki from the bow so you have to make sure you have the ki necessary before hand.

What you aren't accounting for is the human versatility IV boosts (which are huge) and the extra feat (also very helpful), and the fact you aren't losing 2 con with a helf vs an elf. Also, if you don't have maxed UMD, helves get access to RR human and elf items (minor bonus, but still a bonus).

Helf perks > elf perks, imo.

Wow lotsa haters here... it's a cool and fun build and i don't believe he was trying to take credit for it but just give a different twist. At least it was a free bump from them. This is what Caelasreth's 36 pt build will be.

Hey Clean, as you know I capped Smel's pally life last night and this morning I woke up with a couple ideas about what to do with the Helves Angel post U9. I see some discussion above about the viability of stunning on this build and I think it works(unlike the 19 rog/1monk we've been discussing where I didn't think it worked). I have some concerns that it may be spread too thin and the hp is a bit alarming, but here's what I came up with:

    Code:

With the nerf to heavy picks and new stunning fist, that's where I currently see myself headed with Smel. Funny how a lot of people thought stunning was going to be less useful in epics without autocrit(myself included), but with casters just killing stuff instead of using mass hold stunning has become even more valuable in my experience. I used a +3 Dex tome to get improved precise shot and 14 wisdom, would have to bump Strength down a point without it.

The build just became even more feat starved with the stunning aspect. I don't have prof: kopesh, toughness, imp crit: slashing or bludgeon but I think it works as an end end game build exploiting several TRs and a LOT of gear. I may have to drop extend for toughness, the hp breakdown is quite underwhelming as you will soon see. If I ever made a pair of Epic Chaosblades and Lit II kopeshes then imp crit would become crucial and I wouldn't know what to drop, for now I plan on using min II kopeshes exclusively when melee DPSing. Three important things going on in this version of your build: manyshot DPS, Kopesh DPS, and very potent stunning capabilities. I would really hate to go without quickdraw due to all the weapon swapping and boosts being used. Also, Trinity of Man might be a good character name

    Planned Gear:
Trinket - Epic Gem of Many Facets, GFL
Goggles - Epic Raven's Sight or Mentau's or GS HP Item when needed
Helmet - Epic Helm of Frost, +1 Ex Wis
Necklace - Shintao or Epic Necklace of Venom
Cloak - Epic Envenomed Cloak, Toughness
Bracers - Epic Bracers of the Hunter, Disease Immunity
Gloves - Epic Gloves of the Claw or Epic Spectral, +1 Ex Dex
    Belt - Knosts or Ravager
Boots - Epic Boots of Corrosion, Good Luck and +6 Dex
Armor - Red Dragon Robe, Heavy Fort and +1 Ex Con
    Ring1 - Shintao, +2 Ex Str
Ring2 - Encrusted with Holy Burst or Ravager with +2 Ex Con

I know the bracers of the hunter are tough to make but the shard dropped for me last week so I plan on using it. Not sure what I would recommend as an alternative without that piece of gear, you would either have to live without +5 SA or +2 wisdom and +4 to hit from the raven's sight. You could swap in necklace of venom and epic spectrals while manyshotting for +5 to-hit and more importantly go from 102% to 68% ranged threat(losing the 20% claw bonus with -15% stealth strike on bracers and -20% from venom set) with -6 set bonus damage maybe you won't pull aggro from a tank.

    Stunning Blow DC:
    Str - 18 start +5 level +3 ap +9 item +3 abishi +2 tome +2 Bull Str +2 rage +2 ship +2 yugo +8 powersurge = 56
    SB - 10 base + 23 str +10 wrap + 3 fighter pl + 2 kensai + 3 ap = 49
(of course you could somewhat reliably add 1-2 more with madstone boots and less reliably with various other sources)

    Stunning Fist DC:
    Wis - 14 start +1 ap +9 item +2 tome +2 ship +2 yugo = 30
    SF - 20 level + 10 wis +10 wrap + 3 fighter pl + 2 kensai = 45

    HP(ruh-roh):
    1) Stun Mode
    Con - 12 start +8 item(encrusted ring) +2 tome +2 ship +2 rage +2 yugo +2 earth stance = 30
    HP - 204 levels + 200 con + 5 tortoise + 10 draconic + 30 GFL + 20 toughness +20 yugo = 489

Not good, I know. Prolly won't even want to use yugo pots all the time due to the attack speed penalty. Earth stance over wind might be a necessary evil and your dps will already be poor while focusing on stuns. Unless I can figure out how to fit in a toughness feat and APs, I'm not real comfortable running around in wind stance without yugo pots. That'd be 409hp and so-so evasion(-4 to reflex from yugo wisdom pot mind you).

    2) Non-Stun Mode
    Con - 12 start +10 item(ravager ring) +2 tome +2 ship +2 rage +2 yugo = 30
    HP - 204 levels + 200 con + 5 tortoise + 10 draconic + 30 GFL + 20 toughness + 20 yugo + 45 GS goggles = 534

Not much better, but both of those numbers are without madstone or +4 tome conisderations and you do have decent healing amp with evasion. I'd say that tanking is pretty much off the table, don't pull aggro. Dropping extend for toughness would probably be prudent.

Speaking of +4s, if you had +4 dex and con tomes that would net 40 more hp as dex could be dropped to 15 and those two points could be put into con. +4 str and wis tomes would of course raise both of your stun DCs by 1.

3x Fighter Past lives are very important for both your DCs and attack rolls. I haven't run the number but I'm guessing you'd have problems hitting high AC mobs with wraps(kopesh specced, no fighter bonus to hit), kopesh (no proficiency or OTWF) AND ranged(low dex) if it weren't for the 3 fighter lives, pally divine favor, raven's set, and shintao set. You've already shown the value in extended pally plf and I couldn't agree more. I have 1 ranger live banked on smel but two more for ranged damage would be great, and hell barb/monk lives wouldn't hurt either if someone really wanted to go nuts. I will personally be striving for the past lives listed and be amazed if I actually end up with three fighters.

Note: I do NOT recommend trying something like this on a new toon, it's extremely gear and TR intensive and there's a good chance you won't be able to hit/stun anything and be super squishy

Lemmie know if I made any mistakes or oversights.

Thanks for the detailed build notes. I think that no matter which way you go, with your skill you will make it work.

    My comments:

The build works best when you choose one melee weapon type and stick with it. Swapping from wraps to stun, then to khopesh to DPS, even with quickdraw costs you DPS over sticking with one or the other. Also Kensai II forces us to favor one weapon.

I think one has to choose between khopesh (and ideally shoot for two Epic Chaos Blades), or go wraps and be a stunner. Doing both spreads you too thin.

As you noted, the HPs are flirting with being so low as to be a liability. When you are in stun mode and looking at 409 hps on your screen, you are not going to be happy. This build produces some insane burst DPS, and you WILL have aggro from time to time. Dead Angel = no dps. I would fit in toughness and improved crit (more important now with the U9 changes). Icrit also allows you to use LitII's over the inferior MinII's while you work for the ECB's. If you are going wraps you can drop stunning blow, you don't really need both. If you are khopesh you can drop stunning fist (or both stuns). Either way drop quickdraw - it's a great feat, but you don't have room for it. Extend is way too good to drop in my expereince, especially if using Madstone Boots.

Realistically you are not going to be drinkning Yugo con pots very often, as the -5% attack speed hurts too much. Think of it this way, does quickdraw add 5% DPS? It adds a fraction of a percent. If I were using wraps I'd definitely want the 2.5% double strike windstance gave me. This is a burst DPS build after all.

On the stun DC's. I don't know if you already have the three fighter lives, but before you get those, or for new people building, that's a difference of 3 DC. To put your DC's in terms of U9 vs. U8, subtract another 4 (as saves went up by 4 on epic mobs). So in U8 would a 41 and 37 stun DC have been viable? If you can get the three fighter lives done, then I think your stunning blow DC could be worth it. Your stunning fist DC will be borderline in today's game even after the three past lives. As you noted, you also give up AP's for stunning, APs that might serve you better in toughness or the like. Then there is the fact that using wraps with the +10 stunning suffix are not ideal DPS.

The gear is a longer discussion. But clearly by trying to fit in the exceptional wisdom goggles you have to jockey other slots around. Another reason to not go stunning fist. I like to fit in the epic Claw set, as well as Madstone Boots if possible.

Very well thought out post. I look forward to running with you no matter which way you choose to go.

Yeah I need toughness, factoring in earth stance was tough to stomach during the write up but I was a bit panicked while adding up HP's. I really need two more feats but it looks like stunning blow will sadly need to be replaced with toughness. I think 45 DC stunning fist with a 6 second cooldown will be enough.

I could never live without quickdraw on a build like this. So much clicky and weapon swapping, it'd be unbearable. I don't like the idea of limiting my kopesh selection to min 2 only but I'd miss quickdraw more than lit 2's and I don't even want to think about how long it would take me to get a second set of chaosblades. I'd drop extend if it came down to it.

I like the gear layout. I'm not forgoing the claw damage, gloves + gem. Madstones would likely be used in clicky form mostly, then swapping back to abishi.

forgive me if this has already been answered, or if the answer is obvious...but...

why a starting dex of 17, when the build calls for a +2 dex tome to be used at lvl 7, and GTWF to be picked up at lvl 12? 5 ability points seems a bit much considering the only benefit then becomes a +1 to hit with a bow...

i have a feeling that i am overlooking something here so please enlighten me.

if not, wouldn't it make sense to drop dex to 15, up con to 15, and spend the other 2 either on int for skill points or wisdom so you wouldnt need an item to cast lvl 1 spells after a +2 wis tome?

thank you in advance for any info you can give me.

IMPROVED PRECISE SHOT - Dexterity 19+, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Base Attack Bonus +11. Your targeted ranged attacks will now pass through and damage all foes in your path until they reach your intended target.

Improved Precise Shot is what makes you devistating. If you target an enemy at the back of a mob, you can manyshot everything in between. It's almost overpowered.
