Therefore, yes. It is common courtesy to wait a few minutes before popping a raid chest if someone DCed.
Then you don't know far enough. DOn't mislead people into wasting time waiting for people who won't get raid loot.

In this instance... if the bats DCed him, he probably was in the midst of DCing when the boss died. Is it common courtesy to wait and see? I guess... if you knew he wanted completion regardless of whether the chest was full... then maybe. Otherwise, the courtesy thing to do would be to immediately boot and loot.

But too many people don't know how raid chest mechanics work.. so there are miscommunications. But now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

I had that happen to me 2 nights ago.

A "new friend" stayed in until I came back, and was a vod!

I sent him a + 3 banisher for his dwarf.

Far as opening chests, I never open first, regardless if everyone is on or not. I've been yelled at for opening a chest or two, so unless I'm running a quest solo, I don't expect to be opening them first.

Common Courtesy isn't all the common. Nothing upsets me more then when someone in one of my raids pulls this. Invariably, they always respond with sorry didn't notice, no sound, or I wasn't paying attention. It's a big reason I would rather short man than pug.

I think if some one was being a total d***** and demanding people do thing a specific way, especially in the shroud, I would simply list my alts and laugh in voice chat and say, "Put me on your list, lol."

I wouldn't really want to group with some one like that anyhow. Shroud is so easy anyhow that to have such requirements seems awfully ludicrous to me and I would be sure to NOT be following such demands.

Sorry Ssmooth, I think you DC'd from the other thread.
There is no lag. Just because you had none before and can't play now doesn't mean the server move had anything to do with it.

Default correct me if im wrong

There are two types of chests:

The first are those that are present when the quest starts - people who DC will always get loot from these chests as long as at least 1 person is still in the instance when they return

The second type of chest that spawns when the boss dies and quest completes will have nothing in there for the person who is DC'd

Can anyone confirm? I believe this is why everyone is opening that VoD chest because that guy who DC'd aint getting anything imo

    2 types.

Normal chests without raid loot. The only requirement to get loot is to be present in the dungeon when it's opened. (You can't be DCed at the opening of the chest.)

Raid chests. The requirement here is that you be present in the dungeon when the raid boss dies. (You can't be DCed when Suulo dies.)

I must disagree with you there, if the person was present when it spawned they will get loot, even if it is opened when they are DC'd, at least this is how I have seen it happen.

Please do not quote me on this I will make some tests re this situation and either confirm or retract the above statement.

Default what is this word courtesy?

ok i know that not all ppl on Argo are rude intolerant and some what dim witted but we do have those ppl.... as do all the servers...

for me tho if i dc then i usually find unless it took me 10 + mins to log back in that the grp is there waiting for me to pop the chests and if its shroud they even often wait to find out if i want the completion...

for myself if i am party leader, standard 5mins applies unless the person is someone i know or a guildie (i have accidentally cost my guild leader chests in the past now i am way more careful). i never boot ppl who dc. whats the point? if they arent there when the chest is open then their name isnt in the list to be an issue with loot passing etc.

i think its a personal choice thing too tho. there are some ppl who just dont want to wait for others or who are so absorbed in their own game they dont notice ppl have dc'd and dont care anyways.... its those ppl you need to get the attention of and chances are they dont read the forums either
So..... fixed the ladder bug yet??

    Cool

Courtesy....it's a nice behavior to exhibit; not all do. I for one do not let rude people disuade me from being courteous and considerate to others. We play games (yes, DDO is JUST a game, albeit a really really really GREAT one) to have fun and relax...how relaxing is it to be rude and to upset other players because of regular game play difficulties or because of newness?

For a disconnect...it happens to all of us. The raid/quest takes real time for all concerned, including the person who dc'd. So, I always try to wait. For raid chests, which might have take a very long time to get to, and where serious named loot/crafting ingredients can be had...I would wait 5 to 10 minutes. We might all grumble about sitting around a few minutes, but think about how upset the dc'd person would be upon reconnecting and finding nothing :-(
