    Question Build help Please??

I am new to DDO, me and my boyfriend are going to duo this game. I need help with a build. I would like to build something that can do the master mechanic's of a rogue lock picking, locating/disarming traps, finding secret doors and etc, but be decent enough to fight. Any idea's or suggestions???
I am working on a 28 point build. I do not have monk yet, or drow or 32 point build yet. This is for starting out for me. My bf is doing something other then what I am. We just want one of us to be able to pick locks and stuff.
I read making a master Mechanic build is not good but is that entirely true?
I don't know what I should do. The reason I am looking for a build is because I read ddo's settings are junk. So I would greatly appreciate help.

Any pure rogue build can handle locks & traps even with INT 8. Max ranks into trap skills (Disable, Search, Spot, Open Lock), put some effort into acquiring gear & buffs (this guide should help), and you're set. The Mechanic PrE is not necessary to be a good trapmonkey.

For something less squishy and less dependent on sneak attacks for DPS, with some spellcasting to boot, might I suggest my Tempest trapmonkey.

Ubongwah's Exploiter build is a good route to go. Note, you could tweak that slightly and go Arcane Archer. Would still have vaible Melee ability, but add some beefed up ranged combat for just a little bit more versatility. What will be your boy friend's build?

The tempest looks good to me. I'll give it a shot. Thank you very much. What do I start out as first though? Rogue, fighter or ranger??

On a rogue splash always take rogue as the first level so that you get the bonus skill points. If you look at the details of the build already posted (or most builds linked on the forums) it will give you the precise details on what class to take when, what skill points, feats and enhancements to take. Once you have a bit more experience though, try experimenting with your own flavours.

He's thinking about doing a cleric till we really learn the ropes. For first time playing we wanna see whats behind the hidden trapped chests lol and stuff. So one of us is gonna build with some rogue features. Then once we got drow unlocked and learn the ropes of multiclassing, then were gonna make a monster lol. He really wants to make a good paladin. I like paladin too but I like cleric also. I seen a 32pt guide on a cleric that looked promising from screen shots. But I am waiting till drow is available.

Rogue-splashed builds always start with rogue first to max their skill pts and open up all their class skills. When you take the fighter splash is up to you; I took it at lvl 4 so as to get the extra feat & HPs early on, but after I got TWF from rgr 2. My build shows what class, skills, and feats to take every lvl, though there is room for customization.

Thank you . Yeah this is just to unlock the 32pts and drow, also to see whats hidden behind hidden stuff for first play. Once I get those unlocked and learn the ropes I plan on making a monster character.

Oh, and if he's considering a battle cleric, I have a few of those too...

dodge, mobility and spring attack are the 3 feats you need to get the tempest line...good luck and have a blast!
Dravun , Yocoba, Daivik, and so many more.

Now, with the changes to Tempest, you can actually mix the split up some. Like 12 Ranger, 7 Rogue, 1 fighter

If they're going for rogue skills yes. There's some builds that don't necessarily go rogue first, but they use rogue to dump alot of skill points into one area later on (like umd) along with the extra damage from backstab.

it don't matter to me its not gonna be my main character. Its just to unlock the drow and 32pt for a good build later on but that is sturdy but can also access traps and hidden stuff and lock pick.
