Default TOD Horoth Tank Healing Advice

I have run this raid many times, but I am new to the healing roll.

The problem I am having is trying to keep the Horoth tank up (typically barbarian/fighter hp tank).
I use a superior ardour 8 clicky, stand near the tank and cycle heal and when that's on timer heal scroll.

The last run was a success, but I went through a stack of scrolls (about 50) and one or two major pots.
Had a Cleric also healing the Horoth tank, and even then there were a few close calls.

It seems that it's a constant battle to keep up with the massive amounts of damage the tank is taking (especially when the tanks healing amp isn't great).

I don't have the empower heal feat, and was thinking of dropping greater spell focus evocation from my evoker fvs to pick it up.

Suggestions? Like anything, I imagine this will become easier with practice.

Most ToD's I run will have two healers on the tank. As a favored soul I alternate heal scroll and then healing word.

Only when the tank dips below 40% will I actually use a heal spell. I typically end with 1000-1500SP left over.

Make sure you take some ranks of scroll mastery, this will increase the amount of healing from scrolls.

    Be picky about who tanks.

I ran one on normal yesterday and one Cleric finished with 80% sp, the other cleric who was brand new and doing it for the first time, finished with 25% sp. This is pretty typical of most runs Im in, except the Divines will dump their SP on DPS.

Too many pugs think that a Barb is the only choice for tank, yet they do not realize that not all barbs are created equal, gear and healing amp can go a long way.

As a healer the most important thing in this raid if you are pugging, is to know what kind of tank they are using--that will eliminate much resource issue.

I do carry Empower Healing tho, as I often times am healing WF tanks on Horoth and other raids.

    HJEAL MEH!

It helps if Horoth is Exhausted, since his attack speed is still slowed.

It helps if he's Cloudkilled, for the concealment.

It helps tremendously if they care a little bit about healing amp.

Also, hate tanking doesn't have to be constant. If life's really that rough, after the group runs away to go do Sully, give it about 60 seconds, then ask the tank to shield up.

But yes, pickiness about tank is a big deal.

Cloudkill reduces incoming melee damage by 20%. Your party arcane should cast it; on hard/elite runs without an arcane, someone needs to UMD scrolls of it (generally available on the AH for 0.5-3k PP each; bring ten for Hard and fifteen for elite). The tank needs to be standing inside the CK. If CK scrolls are not available, Acid Fog or Incindiary Cloud are acceptable substitutes, but the scrolls are harder to UMD and those spells obscure player vision of the Orthon trash.

Tanks should have healing amp; if they don't, reconsider the choice of tank. The raid can be beaten without it, but it is expensive. My first choice of tank for ToD elite is a human barbarian with 30% racial healing amp enhancements, Epic Claw gloves and 10/20% healing amp on DT armor.

Before shrining in part 2, test out how much HP your Heal spell restores on the chosen tank. If it is over 500 with Empower Healing active, turn off Empower Healing. If it is under 300, ask for a second healer to assist you on the tank.

Throw a scrollheal on the tank if it is off cooldown and the tank is under 80% hp but over 60%. Throw a full heal from SP if they ever fall under 60% (tank deaths in ToD are really bad things, and tanks under 520hp can suddenly but very rarely die to Disintegrate, tanks under 350hp are at risk of death from Meteor Swarm plus one melee attack, or Meteor Swarm plus two badges). In short - you want your tank over 520hp as much as possible, you need them over 350hp all the time.

If both your scrollheal and Heal spell are on cooldown and the tank falls under 60%, you need to burn some mana on inefficient healing spells like Cure Critical Wounds or Mass Cure Serious Wounds. You do not want this happening often.

One more important point: If Orthons and Horoth are simultaneously attacking the tank, they are in serious trouble and action needs to be taken to help them. Some groups have an arcane or a ranger damage the orthons (to take their aggro) then take them away and kill them. Some groups prefer to have an arcane flesh to stone the orthons. Still others keep one or more melees nearby to swat them. If none of these are possible, it is your responsibility (IMO) to run in close (to Horoth's tail) and throw a Holy Aura spell to blind them (so the tank takes half damage from them); or alternately to throw a Cometfall/Mass Inflict or similar spell at them, and then to deal with their aggro until the raid can kill them for you.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
