Default New player, leveling build(will be partnered with Favored Soul)

So my roommate and I have both starting playing. She is going with a favored soul(played a healer since EQ release). I want to play a Half-Orc for aesthetic reasons, but I'm having a hard time deciding how to do so without gimping my character, which is a big problem with DnD I've always heard. I'd like to be able to tank while leveling up and possibly at the endgame. I'd prefer to be able to use a big dumb 2her while leveling on easier content but build my character in such a way that I can go sword and board or even two hand tank(I don't know the viability) when necessary. Since I'll have essentially a dedicated healer I am hopeful this will be possible. She is going for the evoker build. Basically here are the three options I've considered, you can let me know how reasonable they are:

    Half-Orc Barbarian or fighter, pure.
Half- Orc Barbarian or Fighter, with 1 rogue level splashed to open chests and such while leveling(I can get rid of this later, right?)
    Something else.

We are currently on VIP since we got boxes off Amazon, and we bought some TPs(3100 or so) since the bonuses were up over Thanksgiving so we aren't completely F2P atm, although we hope to be eventually as we earn enough favor to unlock the things we need. Any and all input appreciated.

Also, I apologize if this has been addressed somewhere, but I've tried to research and let me just say it has been pretty daunting. It's like learning a foreign language or something.

    I would personally go fighter.

If you are looking for straight builds I would go with:

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=116482

That is the Riott Tank build, keep the stat distribution as it is, just realize you will have fewer skill points at later levels. Also you lose a feat, so just drop one of the toughness feats to keep lightning reflexes (you'll be sorry if you don't)

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=270999

Would give you a two handed fighter kensei who wouldn't be truly terrible at grabbing agro and then turtling, though if you are just duoing, turting won't help you much.

The major problem with going tank in ddo is that it is VERY gear intensive at late levels. Since you are duoing, i would go straight THF kensei, keep agro off the FvS with hate generation (use the APs) and make sure the "Healer" grabs Blade Barrier at 12th (even if you have to beat them over the head with a rather large skillet). Even with a low DC, kiting through that Blade Barrier is going to save you both a lot of pain.

And last but not least, don't be afraid to group with Pugs. Lots of good times can be had with those .

I know you're trying to help but it's a little irresponsible to link the riott build to a new player who already has misconceptions about what it means to be a tank in this game. If you've already looked over that build OP, just try to disregard everything you saw because it's horribly dated and terrible in the current DDO climate. Sword and board is a baaaad idea if you plan on doing most combat with just a pure healer, your job is to kill stuff quickly and her job is to heal.

I'd recommend fighter, this would be a simple end effective build to pair with a dedicated healer: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=282774

It's pretty standard with the added focus on tactics which would help your favored soul in her crowd control duties for this party.
