    Default Quick Question

Hi guys. First of all, Happy Thanksgiving :-).

I've just started DDO due to some new cowrokers playing. Been taking a look at some different things. Spent a little money to unlock most of the races and classes as well as 32 pt builds.

Was just curious if cleric was a decent class for someone new to DDO? I was thinking of doing a Warpriest of Syberis style build.

Yes, Cleric can be a good class to start off with.

By "Warprist of Syberis", I assume you mean "battle cleric"?

Did you have a specific race in mind?

Clerics are a great starter class and battleclerics moreso. I strongly recommend against using the DDO path builds.

Use Tihocan's revised build ofr the warpriest here: http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=75

If you party with other be warned that they will expect heals from you. That said, don't feel the need to be a "healbot" either.

Double plus support for the builds in Tihocan's thread mentioned above. All his builds are solid, and have relevant play style tips, which is a godsend for new starters.

Unless you thrive on responsibility, my personal opinion is that playing 'the Cleric' as new player can be a hard thing to experience.

In the end however, if you stick with it, you will be playing one of the most versatile classes available in the game.

If you want a sit back, swing your swords and enjoy / look good while doing it, choose a Ranger. Melee, Ranged, Self-buffs, self-healing, free Two weapon fighting, evasion.... they have bags of versatility too.

Thanks. Still kind of pondering between fighter, barbarian, and a battle cleric of some sort I guess.

Any other thoughts before I let this thread die out?

Your doing it wrong. Tell the needy 8 con hangers on to buy pots.
Mind you if you want to play "healer" and cure the curses and diseases so they don't have to, that is great. But you are not required to. There are plenty of noobz that are going to blame you when they die around a corner because they are used to a nanny. Don't reinforce the stereotype unless that melts your butter.

i second the people who say it is not the best choice for starting

cleric is a great class, but it is also harder than the other class

    - people will expect you to keep them alive though they sux and you can have some very bad/rude experiences which may make you get a wrong idea of the game
    - cleric need to be extremly good in their sp management, this implies, know exactly what spell is needed, what spell to use, what metamagic use or not use, buy wands ... a good cleric requires some experience about game, dungeon monsters etc..
    - most people who start as cleric, come to realise their char is not very capable after the first levels, they will start to dislike it, add a fighter level to be a "battle cleric" and this is the worst thing to do...

this being said, if you are going to play with your friend only, who are mature and also beginers as well, cleric is perfectly valid - just dont take a fighter level, because it seems easier at first

i am well aware that what i m saying is not very easy to get for a new player, i hope it can help you though,

    have a nice day
