Default Is this a bootable offense?

So I'm in Gianthold, trying to pass the time doing some slayers, when I see an LFM for Wizard King. The LFM states "Do Not Die!" or something to that measure. So there I am, on my barb, recalling out of GH, while I click on this LFM.

I get accepted in to the group, and, being the jokester that I am, I knew I was bound in GH, so there was really only one thing to do. I /death, right after they say hi to me, while I'm still in GH, and type out in chat "OMG! I just died. sorry man.."

    Insta-boot..... c'mon really?!

Saves me from running with some tightwad at least lol.

rofl. While your joke was very funny on it's own, the fact that he kicked you for it makes it even better

    Default meh.

some folks take their adventuring (and their game time) a bit more seriously,
or at least the 10% xp afforded for survivor/victory bonus.
Especially in quests like WizKing where the total xp will be pretty grand, and the 10% is significant.

Gotta say, I'd have booted you as well, just to save myself the potential grie...er...humorous actions I could likely expect later in the quest.

If you don't want to respect a group or a group leader, why bother wasting their time?

EDIT: Yikes - Looking at the other responses, I reckin I'm a tightwad - lol. Least I know what to expect now!

I thought at first, perhaps, his boot was also a joke. But I sent him a tell that said "What? Your lfm didn't say no joking!", there was no response.

Which pretty much tells the whole story.

Shoulda went for the hat trick.

Relog onto another toon, join party.

Get into the quest. Head right back out into the desert. Re-enter. Go find somewhere in quest to die. Res out, leave party.

Or am I being too mean?

Against a pug leader like that, I'm inclined to say go for the hat trick.

Uhm...the OP wasn't even in the quest. No harm was done.

Exactly, not about being a **** to someone...it's just having a little fun is all. And I have to tell you, the best groups I've ever been in have always been laid back people, zerging through a quest, joking and having fun. So joking around isn't indicative of ignorant players either.

Default Group leader mentioned being a tightwad?

Good Lord, if the OP wasn't even in the quest and got booted for
/death'ing to the location... I think the hat-trick would definitely
    be deserved.

And if you are playing this game with your under-roos crammed
ever so snugly up your wazoo to boot someone for that, lol

    Hahahaha classic!
I would make one slight change. I'd just pike out the rest of the quest and get the remainder of the XP

    *EDIT: PM the name please

Problem is now you got 4 other people po'd at you too...not just the leader, who deserves it. Although it's mighty tempting lol.

Nah, that's something that could get you reported for griefing...not worth doing to a guy that has no sense of humor. Now, logging another toon and piking for XP and loot, definitely worthwhile.

Actually did something like this to my guild leader a while back...the guild was in VoD while I was on timer and waiting for the Shroud that was coming up next. There were spots open, so I joined to chat with the guildies. Well, I always bind in Meridia as soon as I can, and I decided to take the quick route to the Shroud. Well, as soon as I go *ding* one of my guildies goes "Oh, no! You let Nyy die!!!", and my guild leader, who was healing, was frantically looking for me to raise, and going "Where are you, I can't target you?!?!" Well, laughter ensued... Best part about it is that he had the star and had been the one who invited me to the group to chat...

I saw that LFM up - it was up for a long time with one person in it.

I also see the famous two boxers LFM up alot - seems to gain a few levels a week or so.

Question: Is this a bootable offense?
    Answer: Yes

Reasoning: Because the group leader gets to build a party the way they want to build it. If they don't want to deal with a practical joker they don't have to. They may think you'll be unreliable. If you don't want to play the way the group leader sets things up start your own LFM with your own rules or lack thereof.

Caveat : Said type of group leader is not likely going to get many people joining their LFMs (apparently this was the case). It's kind of like the kid who always threatens to take his toys and go home. Have fun at home playing by yourself.

Personally: I wouldn't join this group. I think saying "Do Not Die" rates among the more useless LFM texts. Stuff happens, people might die. You want to select for skilled players, then write up BYOH (not 100% effective), any other variation of screening like No Noobs appears in my experience to do the exact opposite by self-selecting for group members that are free-riders, people who don't realize they don't know what they are doing, or elitists, all of whom I don't enjoy running with. To top it off, more often than not the person writing that in the text falls into one of those categories

P.S. : Can you imagine this guy trying to fill a shroud run with Do Not Die? Every other person that joins gets booted when they take the soul train to Meridia and then he throws a fit when someone fails to click the center of the portal in Part 4.

I'm just glad to have coined a new usage for the term "Hat Trick". Good times.

I would have booted you in a heartbeat. If I'm going through a quest and even bother to put up an LFM like that it's usually intended for like-minded people to grab as much XP as possible in the shortest period of time (Wiz-king is one of those quests that you can easily solo all 3 sides, or you can get 3 people that can solo it and do it in 1/3 the time). While I never used "don't die" in my LFM's, I'd use similar phrases like know quest/zerg, TR multiple runs, etc etc. You pick up on who knows their stuff really quickly this way and also learn that probably 50% or less of players actually read LFM text and another large percentage will just hop in to leech the xp while not contributing to the group.

The thing is humor doesn't always propagate to all parties involved, so what was humorous to you could have easily been seen as mockery of the LFM and a bad sign right from the start and due to the group leader not knowing you or your sense of humor, sometimes it is just a lot safer to avoid a potential trouble-maker and cut the fat from the start. Grinding out 4,378,500 XP basically turns you into a grumpy old man.

That being said, there were few times I ever actually booted people for dying once in a quest . Sometimes it just happens, even to great players, and you learn to accept that. On the other hand, I think my rate of booting for "what house" is at 100%, even when I know its a joke.

Edit: "Share plz" comes in at a close second, except of course for Relic of a sovereign past, I will make an exception and show some compassion for that quest alone.
