    Default Longsword dualwielding speed hitter.

My idea is to make a 18 ranger, 2 monk.
By taking he feat whirling steel strike, which allows monk to dualwield longswords and still be centered,
you can get insane amount of attacks with tempest III and wind stance.
Weapon usage would be min II longswords and lightning strike longswords for DPS and DR breaker.

Would that be a nice DPS build or not worth it?

The minor Doublestrike from level 1 Wind stance will rarely ever outweigh the crits you could get from khopeshes instead.

Yea, as AD already mentioned you would be alot better with Khopeshes instead. Since you called it a speed hitter I would like to point out that the enhancements to speed have been exchanged with added change for offhands attacks as well as 5% extra double strike with tempest III and 2,5% doublestrike with windstance. So what you are earning here compared to a khopesh user is the extra 2,5% doublestrike from the windstance.

Since the U5 nerfs to TWF, I don't see much advantage to this build:

    • Tempest I no longer provides +10% attack speed and Tempest III doesn't provide an extra offhand attack. Instead you get +10% offhand proc chance from Tempest I (another +10% from Tempest II) and +5% doublestrike from Tempest III.
    • Wind stance speed bonus got nerfed as well; it's lower and enhancement-only, which means it doesn't stack with Haste. Wind I provides +2.5% doublestrike; not sure if it stacks with Tempest III.

So the only time you'd attack faster is when you're not Hasted; and the only time you'd do more dmg than a khopesh-using Tempest III is against 100% fort enemies (and only if Wind I + Tempest III stack for 7.5% vs 5% double-strike). The rest of the time your DPS would be significantly lower than a khopesh build; and you wasted 2 feats for the privilege.

If you're still interested in a monk / ranger build using longswords, might I suggest my Tempest Phoenix: Tier-2 monk stances, significant free heals from FoL, full trapskills & UMD.

    1. If you go elf, the racial longsword enhancements + ki strikes certainly make them equal to khopeshes.

    2. You get the most mileage out of 6 ranger (twf, itwf, tempest, ram's might); might I suggest 6 or 12 levels of fighter for kensei, or even 6 levels of monk for ninja incorporeal?

    3. Or both! My take on the concept, with displacement dragonmarks for fun: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=285476

No, elf longsword bonuses certainly don't catch up to the effectiveness of khopeshes (particularly once you factor in Hold Monster and Stunning Blow).
