    Default Greensteel Greatsword

I was told for the longest time that greatswords were better then falchions. I didn't really question this since i never used martial weapons before, so when i got my ingrediants together and got ready for reinc, i made up a greatsword. Now i hear people talking about how fighters should use falchions. ERG.

Are falchions signifigantly better then greatswords, or only slightly better. If so, why. If not, why. I checked ddowiki and it seems that falchions have 4 less max damage (2d4 versus 2d6) in exchange for slightly better crit range.

Probably going with greatswords anyhow, but if you can explain i would appreciate it.

The crit range of a Falchion is 50% better.

    That's quite a lot!

Especially if you're a fighter (Kensai I assume?) you ought to be getting extra damage on your criticals.

In the end, 4 less base damage is more than made up for by the extra criticals the Falchions give. Go and do the maths if you don't believe me!

To be fair, I have a Kensai III Fighter, and I decided to make a greatsword for his greensteel weapon.

The thing is I took greatsword as my Kensai weapon. Maybe not the best choice before I get my Sword of Shadow Epicified, but afterwards Its pretty much the best choice.

    To each their own though.

A Kensai should only make a greensteel greatsword as your first greensteel if both
1 you are going to get the Epic Sword of Shadows as fast as you can, and use it as often as you can once you get it
    and
2 you believe making a greensteel weapon is such a great expense that you should make only one ever.

well, live and learn i guess i can always go and make another greensteel, but will probably wait till i am high enough to start doing shrouds as my fighter. all the stuff i have bought or found already are level 12 and below greatswords. Once i get around 14 i can start flagging and getting all those ingrediants again.
