never do this. its considered rude asking another to put their loot for roll. if they dont need it they sure will let it roll. saves u spots on blacklists.

Personally, I do not see a problem with asking if an item is up for roll. As long as it is a polite question. A simple "Is that Seal of Earth up for roll? If they say "no" then I say nothing else about it, other than the occasional "nice pull".

Now, if you just roll on something before it has been announced that it is for roll, that is rude and unacceptable.

As to the OP's question. I would simply ask in party chat, along the lines of "Hey guys, I just won a roll for the Hammer of Life, but I would also like to roll on the SoS that <player 10> has put up for roll? Is that ok with all of you? Or should I just congratulate the person who wins and shut up ? "

Of course I am usually running with people that I know or at least have run with multiple times, and most of them have seen that I often put up stuff for roll. I have even put stuff up for roll and then rolled on it myself. My thinking in those situations was: This is a nifty item, not necessarily great and all the other people rolling on it have already said that they would pass on it if someone really wanted it, so in effect it was a pure greed roll.

To sum up (I think I was rambling a bit there, sorry) I would ask the party (or at least the leader in a /tell) but make sure that you do not get a reputation for being greedy. It is better to wait to get something you want than to get stuck with a bad rep.

Well, I don't go and ask "Hey, can you put that up for roll, <playerx>???", but I tend to make my interest known, such as saying "Hey, nice pull, <playerx>...if ye decide ye want to put it up for roll, I'd be interested. "

    Serves 2 purposes:

    1) If the player is not sure if they want the item, it can help if they know there's interest in the group. For example, a monk might pull Cinder's band and be trying to decide if they can work the +1 ex. Con into their build, but when they see that message, they realize that there are players in the group that are specifically looking for it for the Stalwart set. - can and has happened from personal experience.

    2) Makes your presence known for when the roll takes place...sometimes it can be rather chaotic, and it helps to reiterate exactly what you are interested in rolling on...sometimes people don't pick it up in voice chat, and I've seen where someone declared interest, but did not see the request to roll, and was asked if they still wanted the item as a reminder.

I've never seen or heard of anyone getting upset at something like that, and unless you phrase it in some rude manner, such as "expecting" their items to be put up for roll, then I doubt anyone would ever have an issue with it. I've done it quite a few times, and never get excluded from PuGs that I try to join. Oh, and it probably helps that I don't whine about pulls/rolls/loot choices like many of those "loot" threads. If I don't get it and it's not put up for roll, I simply say "Congrats, <playerx>" and get ready for my next run.

As with everything, it's not as much about what you say as how you say it. Never be afraid to ask anything, just make sure to be polite when you do it and check any sense of entitlement at the raid entrance.

My opinion is that if item A comes up for roll and 5 people roll and you win then item B comes up for roll, check who is rolling for it first, if it is the same people as who rolled for the first item then let it slide, otherwise go for it!

OFC you can always ask in chat!

"Do you guys mind if I roll on that?" and then the group can decide.

The problem with having a policy against winning multiple items is what happens when two items you want drop, one good, one great. For example, DQ, a green blade and a torc both drop. Green blade goes up for roll. Do I roll on it? What if I win? Then I have to give up rolling on the torc. My character really REALLY wants a torc, far more than a green blade, since you can get arcane lore on other items. But I would also love to have a green blade. I shouldn't have to pass rolling on the greenblade, for fear that I win and then don't get to roll on the torc. But then what if I lose the torc roll, now I gave up my chance to roll on the greenblade for nothing.

You will go through dozens of raids and nothing interesting will drop for you. I say if two items drop in the same raid, roll away.

I should think that if the rules are anything other than "it's your loot and you can decide whether/how to put it up for a roll or not" then it is the responsibility of the leader to explain beforehand. If a guild is going to PUG out one spot out of eleven rather than just run with eleven, they should be expected to explain any special guild rules they have beforehand to the newcomer.
