Default Is it proper to roll (and win) multiple times?

Like the title says, I am new to raiding, and I would like to know how this is viewed. I mostly raid with my guild or with other friends, but for the times I'm allowed into one of YOUR raids, how would you feel?

If I am not known, is it proper to even roll at all?

Then If i win something, can I roll on something else?

Having never put anything up for a roll yet with these people, should I be rolling?

Being new to this I have passed on rolling because I just feel wrong, rolling on loot when I am still learning the raid. Eleven other people carried me through, some have been grinding for months, and for me to roll against them ..... I don't know it just seems wrong.

OR am I looking too much into it?

If you contribute to the quest and you can use the item and someone offers it up for roll, by all means roll on it. That said, if you're joining a group as the one new person in the raid, ask what the loot policy is before you start and be sure that you're comfortable with it. If it's a (mostly) guild run they may have some house rules in place that you ought to know sooner rather than later.

I should think that if the rules are anything other than "it's your loot and you can decide whether/how to put it up for a roll or not" then it is the responsibility of the leader to explain beforehand. If a guild is going to PUG out one spot out of eleven rather than just run with eleven, they should be expected to explain any special guild rules they have beforehand to the newcomer.

As always it's up to the person who puts the loot up for a roll.
He can and will disallow rolls on whatever criteria he feels best.
Personally, it would depend on the situation. For the most part I wouldn't let someone roll on the loot I put up if they already won something else. But I would let that be known before the rolling went on, so that they could determine what was more important to them.
It all depends on the person who puts the loot up and the group. Just ask if you're unsure.

If someone says "hey people do you want to roll for ____________" and you need it , just roll . If you win and the guy decides you aint getting it for whatever reason just accept it and move on . But you gotta be innit to win it .

If I win one item I don't roll on a second. Personal preference, just seems greedy to me.

    This!

But if you lost keep on rollin. Just make sure you can use the item, always ask if not sure.

I had a couple of rogues rolling on some healer gauntlets from reavers that made me raise an eyebrow.

I usually go by this, unless the second item in question is something that no one else wants (or wanted by at most 1-2 others, and they've won stuff as well).

This. And if ya think "Awww, I wouldn't have rolled on the first item if I knew the second item would be up for roll too!" well, that's just too bad. Better luck next time. Of course, circumstances differ. If no one else really wants the second item, and someone is just kinda like "Well, I'll roll and add it to my Raid gear collection in the bank", well, sure, go ahead and roll on that second item too if it's something you actually want and will use.

I think if you win one roll, it looks very greedy to roll on another item.

    So I don't do this.

But I did have someone give me a second item recently...since it seemed to be a item for my class.

I didn't feel right about it, and mentioned that I already had one item....and waited a moment to see if someone else would speak up about it before I took it.

    (thx btw)

All that said though, there really is no rule against it. But some people think it is wrong. Most are undecided I think.

Personally, I always try to wait until everybody has "opened" the chest, so that I can see everything. Then, I find if I want any particular items. If 2 or more items I want drop, I ask if the one I want the most is up for roll...if it is, I roll. At that point, I will only ask to roll on other items if:

    1) it is offered and nobody else wants it

    2) it is offered and only people that have pulled raid loot out of that chest want to roll

That way, I feel it's fair to everyone. Now, there have been times when I've ended up with 2 or even 3 items out of a raid chest, but that is mainly because it was a guild run and nobody other than myself wanted the items.

Overall, though, just remember that not everyone will feel the same. If someone puts loot up for roll, they may not care that you just pulled a Torc and won the roll for a Greenblade...they might allow you to roll anyway for that bag of jerky, and not even think twice. It's all up to the person who actually gets the initial loot drop to do with as they wish.

never do this. its considered rude asking another to put their loot for roll. if they dont need it they sure will let it roll. saves u spots on blacklists.

My opinion is that if item A comes up for roll and 5 people roll and you win then item B comes up for roll, check who is rolling for it first, if it is the same people as who rolled for the first item then let it slide, otherwise go for it!

OFC you can always ask in chat!

"Do you guys mind if I roll on that?" and then the group can decide.

The problem with having a policy against winning multiple items is what happens when two items you want drop, one good, one great. For example, DQ, a green blade and a torc both drop. Green blade goes up for roll. Do I roll on it? What if I win? Then I have to give up rolling on the torc. My character really REALLY wants a torc, far more than a green blade, since you can get arcane lore on other items. But I would also love to have a green blade. I shouldn't have to pass rolling on the greenblade, for fear that I win and then don't get to roll on the torc. But then what if I lose the torc roll, now I gave up my chance to roll on the greenblade for nothing.

You will go through dozens of raids and nothing interesting will drop for you. I say if two items drop in the same raid, roll away.

Generally it's bad form to say, roll for a Seal of Earth or Stalwart Defender necklace on a sorc. If it's loot that's appropriate for your _current_ character, then roll on it.

I roll on everything that's offered as long as I need it for the character in the quest.

At one time, I probably wouldn't have rolled for a second item, but I don't really have a hard and fast rule anymore about it. It really comes down to the situation, who else wants it, and how much I need the item. If a cleric was on his first Hound run, I would have no issue with him rolling for both the necklace and shield. If someone were in the Titan and the Chattering Ring was up for roll, I wouldn't object to anyone rolling on it, regardless of what else had dropped, due to the rarity. And I generally treat tomes as completely separate from the actual raid items as well.

So, the short answer is to use your best judgment based on the group you are with and what actually dropped. Whether it is greedy or not is always going to vary depending on who you ask, the particular item, your class, the phase of the moon, whether my dog agrees with you, etc.

If the loot is BTC and your toon's class or build can use it, then roll on it. If not, then don't.
If the loot is BTA and you have an alt that can use it, then roll on it. If not, then don't.
Rolling on other loot after a win is OK to me. It's still random chance deciding the outcome. Sometimes you just get really lucky on chests; like pulling a Bloodstone or large scales. To me it's akin to that. Winning on two rolls is just lucky.
Proxy rollers, on the other hand, should be strung up and shot. But that's another thread.
