Questions on Suggestion song, and on soloing (pun intended)

Yesterday I had my Rog 1/Brd 6 Sensate solo Ataraxia with a Ftr 6 hire. I found that with a hire at my side it is nearly impossible to use CC songs -- he attacks the mobs and prevents them from being Fascinated. Following worked on wildmen: park the hireling nearby, cast/click everything that maximizes my Perform skill, sneak up to a group of wildmen, play Fascinate (or Enthrall) song, then call hireling to me. Problem is that wildmen can do quite a lot of damage while I am playing, and if one of them resists -- more damage. I did this several times, and ended up below half my HP at least twice. Any constructive criticism, or is it just that wildmen are tough for my level?

Question: I had no trouble Fascinating hyenas, but when I tried Suggestion song on one (already Fascinated, of course), I got "immune" message. Worked on a wildman. Which mobs can and cannot be Suggested?

I haven't used the song very much but I have used Mass Suggestion (the spell). It seemed to work on anything that was living. I would assume the song is the same (will not work on undead/constructs). I am not 100% sure though.

fairly certain single target suggestion requires the subject to understand a language. mass suggestion seems to ignore that restriction for some reason.
