    Default Serene Defender (Pure light intimitank Monk)

    Serene Defender (20 Monk)

    Concept: Intimitank Monk. Proof of concept build, need help working out a viable gear layout.
    Kudos to Solar Phoenix and other builds that I used as inspiration

    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

    Final Unbuffed Ability Scores:
    23 (26) Strength. (14 base +2 Tome + 6 Item +3 fire stance +1 exceptional)
    23 Dexterity. (15 base +2 Tome +6 Item)
    28 (32) Constitution. (14 Base + 5 levels + 2 Tome +6 Item +4 earth stance +1 exceptional)
    14 Intelligence: (12 Base +2 Tome)
    22 Wisdom: (14 base +2 Tome +6 Item)
    22 Charisma: (14 base +2 tome +6 item)
    Ability increase every 4 levels: All in Con

    Skills : Keep Concentration, Intimidate, UMD and Jump maxed out at all levels. At level 1 put 1 rank into tumble and rest into Balance. Top up balance after int tome, extra points into Listen or as preferred.

    This is needed for Hound Elite which is the only raid in which you would need such ideal conditions. It is quite easy to have slightly less than 80 due to second intimidate timer that half-elves receive. Having a 1, 2 or 3 point shortfall will only result in very very intermittent intimidate fails (0.25% for 1 point, 1% for 2 points, 2.4% for 3 points). This fact makes the really hard stuff (exceptional Cha, +7 item, +4 tome) optional. If all the hard stuff is acquired it may be possible to spec out of improved intimidate, bullheaded, skill focus: intimidate etc. (can pick up toughness, past life: monk etc.)

    Where are you getting +3 Improved Intimidation, with no class providing access to that?

    Improved Intimidation (available up to IV) is listed on DDOwiki as a racial enhancement for half-elves, am I mistaken?

    One of the requirments for any and indeed all of the Improved skills...is having a class that has that skill as a class skill.

    I don't know...I kind of like this build as a half-elf. If you're going to focus on intimidate it seems like it makes much more sense to do so as a half-elf with the second chance button. Lag happens, things run out of range, second waves come in and in all those cases you'll want that second chance.

    Also, I'm not sure if you're going to be able to get a workable AC. I suppose you could toss on chattering when you're intimitanking and lose the ToD rings, toss on chaosguards if you're in earth stance instead of fire, etc. Without maxing out on dex or wis I wonder though. The reason I bring this up is that if you do the triple pos 10/20/30 kama then you'd be free to use a different robe. If you can get a meaningful AC that's probably icy raiments. If not I'd seriously consider a good guard DT. Maybe try to slot a nice guard GS as well. If you're tanking and your AC isn't worthwhile then guards are very nice.

    Serene Defender sucks. Gotta go with the Solar theme...was gonna call mine Solar Plexus, y'know, as in punchin' people in the solar plexus. hehehe

    Anyways, yeah, go Human, and everything else you have planned is pretty identical to what I'm doing. Pretty funny we both started on this around the same time, I wonder if there was talk about it within the guild that I don't remember?

    I've got a few TRs to go through still, and I go plenty slow, so I'm not planning ALL my gear (because things might change), but I'm at least just keeping track of equipment that is essential, or at least very very important, right now that is:

    Shintao Cord / Kyosho's Ring
    DT Robe (10% Healing Amp / 20% Healing Amp / Disintegration Guard)
    Jidz Tet'ka
    Epic Gloves of the Claw
    GS Accessory: +45 HP, Corrosive Salt Guard
    GS Accessory: +6 Cha Skills, Lightning Strike Guard

    That's all I really worry about right now. Even then, anything level 18+ or so I probably won't bother grinding out until my last TR. Don't see the point spending the time doing that only to have something else come along before I'm ready for the final Intimimonk build. Of course I'll participate in the raids for XP and if I get the item that's great, but not gonna really grind for it.
