Default VOD: Normal, for fun - BYOH, may just wipe, run out alone

That was the message in the Social Panel for a group led by a WF 10 Wiz/9 Monk, who barely glanced at the names of the folks as they joined, let alone their builds.

The fun started off with a mostly-wipe at the first locked door in the sub on the way to the quest, partly because I was too busy accepting join requests to deal with the living spell, and partly 'cause I'm a gimp.

We found out that there were a few people who didn't know how to get there, and a kindly FvS went back to help them through.

Once we all gathered in the foyer, I went over what to expect (for the sake of the new folks), and assigned roles based on what we had available.

The last person to join said he didn't want to run, but just had to ask what I meant by "BYOH" in a VoD, and if I was serious. When informed that indeed, I was serious, he asked for me to let him know how it went (he dropped and we picked up the last one a short while later).

    It was loads of fun!

what exactly is the accomplishment here? looks like you had multiple healers and they were using auras/mass cures in both screenshots, so other than the fact that the lfm said byoh this doesnt appear to actually be different from how vod is usually run.
a tribe called zerg, cannith: healings, oozesniffer, krushinator, oxidize, kwanzaabot, eltonjohnbot
Solo: tod normal, vod elite, adq2 epic, vod normal at level 18. all with no pots.

Not posted as an accomplishment, but now that you mention it I did expect to wipe. Don't think of it as an Accomplishment post as much as a "Here's how it went, but I don't remember who asked" post.

The biggest difference I can think of is that we formed the strategy around the group composition, not the other way around.

Which, IMO, is more fun anyway.

Thumbs up It started off as ByoH and became a fun raid

It was just 3 people mostly screwing off when Phidius decided to be sociable and posted a Llm. In fact we had to exit the sub and convert the group to a raid just in case. We didn't expect to have any hits let alone a full raid.

There where a few first timers as well as some old hands in the raid. Good thinking and communication allowed us to complete fairly smoothly.

Just having people that did as they were asked and were willing to help others when they saw that they were unsure that they knew what was going on made this raid.

I have mostly stopped raiding with pugs as it has become a cryfest and not very fun. But this one was lots of fun, the most fun i have ever had in VoD in fact. And we had a few deaths as people found out that it was at least a little ByoH. Other then Aura's and what ever mercy the FvS and Clrs felt like giving out.

You mean....... everyone doesn't just enter the quest, spell/buff/rage/shrine up and then figure out who's doing what?

    Zounds........

    OH THE HORROR!!!!!!111111!!!

You mean you actually took the first group of people who hit your LFM, ran to and completed a Raid in this game?

Wow bud, you are quite the contrarian....going against established perfect Raid groups, using whatever hit, multiple languages present, etc, etc.

*See above for pathetic attempt at sarcasm*

I say kudos for doing this, just to prove a point if nothing else. Most "decent players" in this day and age of DDO should be able to do what Phidius did exactly. Take whomever hits the LFM first and complete just about any quest in the game. Its really not rocket science.

BTW man, I wish I would have seen your LFM....I have any number of gimped toons who would have clicked on it

Kudos to you again, not for posting an "accomplishment", although it was...but for showing others there is still blatant fun to be had in new experiences.

Sounds like a very fun way to get noobs involved. In fact, I may just post that up on the next quest that I have no idea what I'm doing in lol....

I mean, the fact is, not many people just go into a quest, with little care or concern for anything but just purely having fun no matter what. That alone is the biggest accomplishment...finding a whole raid where nobody is crying, and everyone's just having fun no matter the outcome.

So screw any nay-sayers. Bravo on your amazing accomplishment, and I wished I had been on and seen that lfm!

Gratz - sounds like a huge amount of fun!

I've run VoD and HoX like that a bunch lately - far more enjoyable.
Ghallanda - now with fewer alts and more ghostbane

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing another group like this sometime in the future...maybe even tonight after work. I have yet to run HoX, VoD, or ToD, and my lvl 18 clr is itching for some xp and awesomeness.

And it would be awesome for cleric to put up a BYOH lfm too...

/salute, and hopefully more newbs know how to run VOD.
    - I've been to so many raids, but I wouldn't call myself a vet, since I have yet to try out different strategies, tactics and classes in raids.
    - Main in sig, alts: Frostiee, Aliciae, Amandae

Truth be told, I run most of my groups just like this. I find that 95% of the time (when I don't roll a one on my pug joiners) I get the necessary classes/roles hitting my LFM. The high raids (Tower, EDQ, etc) I won't run like that because completion hinges on a clear strategy and roles fulfilled revolving around said strategy...But the lesser raids like Shroud or VoD I'll usually just cobble together like this. It's actually great fun The only time I get mad is if people start doing stupid things and refusing to listen. Most groups will work as long as people are willing to listen and work as a team though.
The House of Althbrite: Uzer, Wizard - Malwystin, Fighter - Teilah, Rogue - Toviz, Cleric - Spoonie, Bard - Malevolence, Barbarian - Lutecius, Revenant build (my gimptoon) - Kepesk, Sorcerer

    Red face

I hope there are a lot more people like the OP in Cannith. It will greatly help the new ones to learn and run a raid. I joined a Tempest Spine once and it ran smoothly, very smoothly, but not enjoyable, I didn't know what was happening or where it happened. Stressful as a matter of fact.

I see a lot of VoD runs posted in the LFM. Look for one and ask to join. Just let the leader know you're new to the raid and they will explain it. It's a fun raid and not terribly difficult either. Oh, and the +2 to the loot tables won't hurt either!
Main: Castagir (completionist), officer of the Fighting Clowns of Sarlona. Alts: Modric, Modrich, Kristna and others.
