    Default Assassination breaking Stealth?

Ok, went through 6 pages of threads and I have a basic question regarding Assassins.

Sorry if these have been answered (in fact, I would be shocked if they haven't) but I would just appreciate a couple of quick answers.

    1. Regarding Stealth while assassinating: Does Assassinate break stealth? Does it matter whether you're successful or not as whether stealth is broken or not?

    2. Is there a Rogue Assassin FAQ that I can refer to in the future? If so, can I get a link?

    Thanks for your patience.

Assassination does not *break* stealth, but it does make the target aware of your presence (as they just got stabbed from a dark corner, they're pretty sure someone's there). So while you stay stealthed on a failed attempt they're very likely to start beating you in the face and that will break stealth.

Success does not break stealth, but mobs very nearby are alerted to your presence and: see above behavior. If they're a little ways off they will not notice.

Would high (50+) Hide and Move Silently skills mitigate the nearby mobs' ability to discover you if you do assassinate their friend?

Thanks for your answers btw. +1

I don't know if move silent has an effect. The mobs *really* near in a tight cluster immediately start swinging at you (as if you failed a spot check), but the ones only a ways off do act like you failed a move silent check and just come over searching. I havent done any in depth testing, though. I have 50 in both.

Mobs will move to the place where their buddy died. It may seem like they are moving to YOU but they're moving to a spot on the ground.

It's easy to test. Head to the Vale and stealth to that group of rats right at the merdia entrance. Assassinate one and IMMEDIATELY start moving away. They'll go nuts and start attacking the area. If they hit you, you'll get decloaked and you'll think they moved to you.

They didn't. They moved to your kill and got lucky randomly attacking. If you move away quickly enough, you won't get revealed. most of the time it happens so quickly that people think they got revealed by assassinating.

Another place to test this is Wrath of Flames. That's an assassin's dream, as there are small groups of mobs evenly spread out. Assassinate one of the three in a group and move quickly. If you keep moving, you can avoid attack long enough to assassinate another one. Of course, that's more for style points than anything else as it's usually MUCH faster to assassinate one and melee the rest.

I may be wrong, but i'm pretty sure it also doesn't break invisibility.

Sorry to derail this thread a little bit, but i've been soloing wrath a few times lately,
and i was asking myself if there's a way to see who's the real lightbringer.

So far it has always been one of the two to the west, one saying "you're all pretty bad liars",
the other one saying "they lie, i'm the real one".

Coincidence? I've only run it 6 or 7 times yet, so i can't be sure.

Assassination (successful or not) does not break stealth. (or invisibility btw)

You can even assassinate barrels. (a useful skill actually)

Sucessful Assasination does however cause a reaction from nearby creatures in a semi-random way. (semi-random as far as I can tell, cause I see no decernable pattern from it)

Usually they hear the cries of alarm from the guy you just killed, and instantly know your exact location. (but do not usually continue to know where you are if you move)

This has a limited range for how far away they can hear him.

Sometimes though, they hear something and do not know what it was and move over to investigate.

Sometimes they remain completely unaware that anything happened.

As close as I can figure range to the kill decides which reaction they will have. (usually)

And most of the time, you can count on them knowing exactly where you are. (for a moment) and continuing to agro on you.

But agroing on you done not mean you have to give up hiding.
In fact, if you are really good, you can go assasinate the friend of the guy you just killed, who is now actively agroed on you and trying to kill you.
(I use Bluff to pull this off)

Draccus is probably more correct than me of course. It's just that I've seen several different reactions. Usually they act exactly as he said. But they usually do "agro" on you. But agroing does not mean they actually know where you are, only that they will try to find you by attacking the air, usually where they last knew your location to be. Then through the magic of sonar that every great club in enchanted with
They will then know exactly where you are at the moment they did their attack the air thingy. And move to that location and try again.

Archers and casters sometimes shoot right at you. Some other monsters also sometimes fire ranged attacks right at you. Some monsters like Ogres and Trolls will do a jumping flailing triple hit attack that has a large area of effect, as well as a reach that is farther than their graphic can account for.

All of those things may damage you.
And knock you out of sneak mode. (some non-damaging attacks will also knock you out of sneak mode)
    But not break Invisibility.

And you can resneak. And they (usually) will have to keep trying to find you.

And Bluff does open them up to SAs and possible assassination. (if you can do it without being knocked out of sneak mode again.....not always an easy thing to pull off)

Btw. Faster Sneaking IV and 30% striders (or Haste) really help in these situations.

That's exactly why I think a lot of people assume the monster instantly saw them. A quick ranged attack (most mobs have them) in your direction will result in popping you out of stealth if you're standing around. This can often look like they saw you. If you're fast (Epic Dustless Boots FTW!), the attack misses.

Pretty much everything has been covered here, but I'll just add that any mob that can teleport and sees (or is very close range) the assassinate will instantly teleport and swing, which will reveal you. So, be very careful assassinating around orthons and devils.
