can someone clarify for me does the stoneskin sla need the component or not, people have asked before but nobody has given a definitive answer.

None of the SLA eat spell components, they do however eat at your maximum SP total and still cost SP to cast.
And frankly... if you really want to be cheap with stoneskin just use it off a wand. Otherwise just cast it with the spell components as usual. Past a certain point the material cost just doesn't bother you anymore.
