I don't see anything wrong with their proposed change and it is MUCH better than the old system.

They should add, at least, an advice saying wich scroll dropped and who got it. Otherwise they are making ninja loot automatic, imo.
I never had any problem with the current way of looting scrolls, i dont roll on stuff i dont need and sometimes other people do the same, so this new way is really useless, annoying and harmful...
Well it will only do good for groups with: "all loot -> your loot (even scrolls)"...
The best idea would be for leader to get all scrolls (with this global anouncment) if he keep some scrolls for himself then it will be easy choise to ban this leader (and get ifno to his guild)...
Now it propably will require few runs with this same people to find black sheep...
If I remember correctly the Raid loot was once given to the leader who could then give it out to a player that won a role and has been changed as it lead to the point that leaders first distributed the items to guildies or friends and then to others ... nahhh, I not really like that Idea.
Then I would prefer the bag that drops ... but the issue here is, at which time the roll for this object end as you can't give everybody the item that click on it nor is it practicable to wait till the end of the quest till the object is finally rolled and distributed.
Anyway I am fine with this change. The chance I loot the scroll is 1/6 exactly as if I would manually roll on it.
Some people wrote, "well but then players will loot scrolls even if they have no use for it". Yes, to bad it is not in your inventory but you could have failed the roll anyway to a second or third player and then it would still not be in your inventory. On the other side this will bring us something else:
1. This mean that more scrolls may show up on the AH
2. Some Epics may be run more often to get the desired loot
3. ... not to mention that there is still the possibility that someone give it for a second open roll
just my 2 cents
I am not too crazy about this change. It is just auto-ninja loot now, as I see it. I would rather see scrolls drop in chests and at a better % rate than they drop now, PLEASE!!!!!!!

Whats the difference between auto-loot and in the chest? Only thing I can think of that makes it different it is easier to assign it to someone else in the chest then to open a trade window. Other than that, it seems the same to me (assuming a message is given when a scroll drops)

That was posted an hour before the OP made this thread. Other then the players having manually roll on the items at the end of the quest, the actual change to how epic scroll assignment works is exactly like what the OP suggests.
Scroll drops
Game decides who gets it on a random roll
Game announces that X player just got Scroll Y
Whining/moaning/threats commence in 3...2...1
Really hate to break this to all of you telling us how loot drops and who decides who gets what is supposed to work...
YOU AIN'T THE DEVS!
And thank the gods for that fact, can I get an amen or a praise be!
I've run a few epics in pugs, I've NEVER seen a scroll drop from a mob. I know it's HAPPENING...but oddly enough, not a single person ever mentions picking up a scroll. Me, I'm just not used to looking for loot bags on a capped toon, so I'm not in the habit..still...but now I don't HAVE to develop another bad habit! And now I don't have to wonder which of the SOBs I'm running with, usually friends! are ninja looting the scrolls, because one of em sure as hell is.
The current system is problematic in pugs because it empowers the dishonorable random pugger with a good keyboard macro to autoloot anything that drops as quickly as possible with the hopes that no one will notice or to loot things as fast as possible and then bait and switch the group by saying it was some low value scroll that the pugger happens to have on them while they keep the valuable one. The new system is a "your loot is your loot" system where the game gives each group member an equal chance to get the scroll and even saves you the time of having to pick it up off the ground and puts it in your inventory for you. I would not care either way if there was some kind of announcement as to what scroll drops and for who, but if you want people to put all scrolls up for roll in your groups you will have to read them some sort of disclaimer every time you run with a pug and tell them if they don't like it they can leave.

some jerk just stole a cloak scroll in our chronoscope run and nobody knows who it was for sure so basically everyone around the area of the drop got blacklisted by the various guilds there. Luckily I was around the corner or I'd be in the same boat. This and the eardweller free for all is beyond stupid and needs to be changed. Why would they possibly ever not be individually viewable like every other collectable bag drop? What reason could there possible by to let the first person who grabs it get it besides to start fights?
I'm trying to run epics in the sands for a scroll of the ring of spell storing but I know **** well anyone who picks it up before me isn't putting it up for roll like they agreed to at the beginning of the quest. That of course means I'd be inclined not to put it up for roll either. I don't particularly trust anyone with an SP bar farming eardwellers with me either and those are barely soloable on elite. Everything about this system is stupid.
P.S. I soloed the opening parts of partycrasher for about 3 hours today and got approx 5 scrolls that are ALL MINE! Mwa ha ha ha. You know what they always say: If you want something not stolen, you have to do it yourself.
3 things:
a) Thanks for the quote on Eladrin, didn't see that (was at work).
b) lol @ your comment about devs, apparently you missed my comment about not really *suggesting* anything. just playing with thoughts. See, the sad thing is that most people think their idea will actually get looked at. Hell most even think their ideas are good. I was more having fun with the thought, just for sh*ts.
c) I get where you're coming from, with as much as I play I've yet to make an epic item... More from lack of epic b/c I TR so much though. I run with pretty honest people, and I usually turn in game sounds up when i'm in epic to listen for the drop lol.
As to b)..that's more directed at the people who are really complaining the most about this change, and every single time it's due to 1 simple thing..they lose control on who gets THEIR loot..regardless of who said loot actually dropped for
I don't see that type of bs myself when I'm gaming, even in epics, other then the scroll ninjas. I haven't seen it since they changed how raid loot drops, and I sure as hells don't miss it.
I find this hilarious. Not because people are flipping out since a mechanic they already used was getting automated, but because I just read about this.
A website I frequent had a few studies that stated, point blank, "power makes people think they can change reality. A subtle example of this is power making a person think they have a better chance of winning a die roll if THEY roll it and not the condeferate (of course, completely normal die were used and the die roll was not biased in any controllable way)."
Basically, people flip out when they lose power in a situation like this (losing personal power that has no influence over the result to something or someone else, without bias, that still has no influence over the result) because things are instantly better when they do it. I believe it is called "My fecal waste stimulates the olfactory system in a more pleasant and readily accepted manner than that of others, because it was excreted from the end of MY digestive system. Dawg." syndrome.
Please note that the study is actually real. There were other situations as well, however die rolling and D&D go together so well I couldnt resist using that particular one.
