    Default Oh **** no!

    From release notes:

Epic Scrolls are now immediately given to a random party member instead of being a (ninja) lootable bag.

Unless this is accompanied by a message saying which scroll goes to which character broadcast to the entire group this is a step in "The Wrong Direction "

As someone who does not do epics very often, why is this bad? I would think that the ability no ninja loot is worse.

Because if there is no message saying that X player has this scroll, they may not speak up and let the group roll on it, therefore ninja looting now became automatic.

It should be easy enough to put it broadcast into party chat, similar to how looting chests work, right?

I chalk this one up to pirate looters trying to foil ninja looters.

Aha, that makes sense. Maybe make it come up like it does when you loot a chest.

Automatic scroll distribution makes any additional rolls unnecessary. Your loot is your loot.

I can't imagine the devs would do it like that. There's got to be a message. If not it just completely wrecks the entire mechanics of scrolls.

I'd rather they just start putting them in chests and make them BTA if that's the case.

The intent is for there to be a message that goes to the entire group.

At least there is a name associated with it so you can squelch scroll-hogs, but I'm still not sure I like the idea of auto-distributing scrolls.

While it does effectively do the random rolling to see who wins for the group, I dislike the change. It would give me even less reason than I already had to take people I don't know on epic runs.

I am also assuming that it is pure random assignment, meaning that someone could get two scrolls in a row, when most groups I run with have rolls go from highest to lowest to pick from the scrolls that dropped (i.e. limit of winning 1 per run).

So, no, my group is not full, random guy who wants to run epic content with us. We just decided to short-man it or use a hireling instead.

edit for Eladrin response: still seems like there could be a better alternative, as messages often get lost in renown or combat spam. However, at least this will make it easier to update The List with regards to scroll hogs.

So, old system, a scroll drops on the ground, (hopefully) it is spotted, and everyone rolls on it to see who gets it. New system, a roll is made, scroll goes straight to the inventory of the person that won. What's the problem here? The only difference is that the mechanic generally used has been automated, making ninja-looting impossible.

It does get rid of moments like "that turreted archer that's somewhere we can't get to dropped a scroll, but nobody can get to it", or "we didn't notice that a scroll dropped off that monster".

Why would the group need to roll on it? It's already been rolled on internally and whoever won the roll got the scroll.

Now, don't get me wrong, I 500% agree there should be a loot message to the whole party. But not so everyone can roll on it, that's redundent in my mind. My reasons are:

    1. So we actually know scrolls are dropping. Im worried the player won't see it, won't mention it, and we'll hear constant "I've run x quest 100 times and no one has ever pulled a scroll"

    2. So we have an opportunity to beg/bribe/convince the lucky winner to part with their scroll if it's a much needed one.

    3. Im worried the person who pulls it won't notice and end up with a scroll they don't actually care about. They might have put it up for roll if they didnt want it, but if they don't notice they won't have that chance to be charitable.

On the positive side, this has some benefits. Obviously it defeats ninja looters where the scroll goes to the sneakiest and quickest to hit backspace/u the fastests. Additionally, it avoids the risk of not noticing a scroll on the ground while running through a quest (Ive often wondered how many scrolls have been left in the water in Last Stand because the mob died away from the party.

A nice simple "Fred has looted an Epic Scroll of the Marilith Chain" loot message broadcast to the party like when a chest is looted is the simple piece that needs to accompany this to make it complete. And since I haven't jumped on Lammania yet, who knows...maybe it's already there?

EDIT: Man, hate it when Eladrin answers your question while you are busy typing it! Looks good to me, don't see any problem with this change.
