Default Quick look at Cauldron of Sora Katra (item combiner for Droaam)

Too upgrade a weapon you take one weapon from the update 7 quests and one weapon from update 8, along with a 3rd item called "Mark of X". With 4 different marks. Based on the names they seem to keep the stats of the base item and get a bonus effect from the add-on item.

The new weapons are Gnollish War Bow, Ogrish War Axe, Staff of Shadow, and Hooked Blade (a khopesh). The scepter can only be combined with the staff. The set bonus items use 2 marks instead of a 2nd item.

I'm a little disappointed that there is not a single dex melee item between the update 7 and update 8 quests.

Technically handwraps are finesse melee, but of course that does NOT count because you can only use them with a monk splash.

Also technically there was the Nat Gann quarterstaff in a U7 quest, which is finesse melee because of a special feature. (Of course, finesse characters really always want to use TWF, so a staff hardly does anything for them except at low-low level before TWF feats)

Sorry, I meant that could be used with this new system so Nat Gann's quarterstaff doesn't count.

Hopefully all the finesse weapons in U8 are so naturally uber that they don't even need any buffs from the crafting system.

Great Axe. So the end options you can have are Greatsword, Great Axe, Handwraps, Long bow, Khopesh, Quarterstaff, Heavy Pick, and Falcion

Even longer for a repeater or Maul, War Hammer, Morningstar, etc.

One reason I think there are so many comments about these being good items is that there are so many weapons. A weapon is easy to change and for TWF builds, you need 2 of them pretty much all of the time. If a weapon will be useful in a few situations, it's worth adding to the golf bag. That's especially true if it's relatively easy to get or account bound and useable before most people make greensteel.

However, for a body slot item, there isn't that much switching. Each item has to compete against other items of similar levels. And when you're talking epic items, as many of the more recent items have been, it's pretty much assumed that that character has at least 1 or 2 greensteel items and access to most other epic items. Keeping in mind that there are things like Heavy Fort, +6 Con and at least Greater False Life that have to be fit in somewhere, new body slot items also have to be worth changing your whole setup around. It's even worse with item sets.

There's pretty much guaranteed to be someone that likes the item but thinks, "That breaks up my Amarath set. I could replace it with X, but that breaks up my Red Fens set." Weapons are more like, "I use that type of weapon and it would be useful againt X, I'll try to pick one up." A much easier target audience.

This. And it isn't that it just breaks the set ... we all play this game:

"I can slot that, but that's where I have my GS HP item, so I'd need to make a second of those and put it there, which moves my bracers of the claw so now I need to find fort I suppose I could put my Minos back on, but that overlaps with the toughness I stuck on my whatever ... oh god where's my deathblock now?"

I'd love to see gear sets swappable by a single click. I don't even need a bajillion of them, 3-5 is more than we've got now.
Ghallanda - now with fewer alts and more ghostbane

What comments about good weapons? I don't see many...

It's disappointing that there are four THF weapons, but zero finesse. (Handwraps don't count unless non-monks are allowed to get regular attack rate with them).

Also disappointing that the longbow will have no use for ranged specialized characters, because the damage is low. If you already had the bow strength then it's just a +5 crippling.

Also the staff of shadow is only good for frozen mobs, and the rageful doesn't stack with the rage you already have..

On the other hand, the bracers and armor look pretty great.

HellFire Xbow Epic, Hammer of Life Epic, etc.. So not longer for many of the items you listed. Its a racial dwarf weapon that dwarves actually use or at least some few dwarves still do.

Do you refer to the Battle-Scarred items, ie Katra's Wit?
Has anybody (ie you) completed an upgrade, so we can see the final product?

    Cheers,

Yes, that is what I'm talking about.

The info I gleemed was just by looking at what the options were when using the cauldron.

PS: as soon as I have an upgrade element I will post how it will look like.
    * We have collectable bags, mind you, even hireling folders, but can I have that 6-pack for my potions please?
    * Having already a past life on the dieng EU servers, I rerolled here and started from scratch as I like the game and the community, so lets see what awaits me here
