Default Is it JUST the base armor type that determines how it will take the dye/style?

It's nice to see some of the screenshots. Lots of them say "heavy armor with leaf" or something similar.

Will ALL heavy armors with leaf look the same? Does it vary by type, or by the underlying "base" skin?

Nice to know I can put a skin on my starter rags and it will look a bajillion times better than most of the existing armors in the game.

bump for attention and possible answer from (a) someone who's had the plethora of time to test all options or (b) a dev.

I wonder how many players will start requesting their starter rags from the developers.

I wonder if I have any characters that have them still.

No, you should see some variations, whether subtle or obvious -- particularly with named armour it seems.

Having said that, many suits of heavy armour will look identical with the same dye applied (I think).

    Default Base type, mostly

All armor seems to fit into one of 6 categories:
    Heavy
    Medium
    Light
    Robe
    Outfit
    Skirt

    Heavy includes:
    +2 Mithral Full Plate
+1 Breastplate of Lesser Acid Resistance
    +2 Banded Mail
+1 Half Plate of Light Fortification
    +2 Splint Mail

    Medium includes:
    +2 Hide Armor
+1 Breastplate of Lesser Acid Resistance

    Light includes:
    +1 Chain Shirt
    +2 Padded Armor
    +1 Studded Leather Armor
    +2 Padded Armor
+1 Chain Shirt of Light Fortification

    Robe includes:
Robe (from the general vendor in the market)
    Robe of Command Undead
Lesser Fire Guard Robe of Stability
Lesser Lightning Guard Robe of Command
    Nullcloth Gown

    Outfit includes:
    Dragontouched Vestments
    Icy Raiment

    Skirt includes:
+1 Brigandine of Lesser Sonic Resistance
    +2 Chain Shirt
    starter rags

I think any type of armor can get the Skirt skin, if the armor has a skirt.

Not sure how the Warforged sets work. I think they are by class and body feat.

There are no subtle variations. 2 armors that fit in the Heavy category will have the exact same look if you use the same cosmetic kits on them.

But it would be logical that in the cosmetic sense it is heavy.

They don't seem to go by item-weight, but by base item mesh.
MFP shares appearance with FP, so basic mesh is heavy.
