    Default Configuration Error

Hey everyone. I am new and downloaded the game and started a toon. Every time I click on the launcher to play, I get an error message that reads, "The configuration file is empty or missing. Run the installer and select the "repair" option".

I did that, it took awhile and was able to play again. The third time, I just got the same message. There obviously is something wrong that I have to sit 30 minutes to do the repair again. I also tried wiping it off my computer and re-downloading it. It's doing the same thing. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This happened to me in November as well, I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it. Changing file names. Completely wiping it from my system. The only feed back I have ever gotten was to format my hard drive and that was on the facebook page... Not going to do that for a game since it is the only problem child...

I noticed after the first unistall that the folder for Turbine disappeared from app data in my user profile and never returned.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Mercybringer,
I would create a new user account with administrator rights and launch the game using this new profile.

    Thumbs down

yeah, I tried that as well, XP is funny like that.. Also just finished downloading the full package again via file planet, same config error. I believe this game is for the garbage pile sadly. I really enjoyed the 2 months that I played, me and few friends had just started up a guild and what have you.

Did the file planet client patch itself or did this error message occur immediately after re-install?

I would use Turbine's download and the official client is here:
    http://www.ddo.com/ddosupport/download-ddo

Did you check the second XP account directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Turbine

    For the launcher log file?

Have you tried contacting Turbine direct given this is player-to-player forum?:

I may have figured this one out, I copied all the files over to an external drive and went to a different PC. When I ran the exe it told me my .net version was wrong and to install 1.1.4322. So I grabbed it from microsoft, installed, and finally got to the log in screen. Now if only I could remember my user name......

    There's a [link] for that! > https://myaccount.turbine.com (Forgotten Username)

Remember, when you do that check your email providers web site (e.g. log into your email from your providers web mail page not your downloader tool like Windows mail, cell phone etc) because they might mark emails from noreply@turbine.com as spam and you won't see messages they mark that way unless you login and check spam/junk mail folders directly.

NOTE: The Customer Support forums are best for Player-to-Player help, for more direct and official support, please submit a ticket to the appropriate team via the form here.

After contacting support, log into your email webpage to add noreply@turbine.com and accountsupport@turbine.com to their "safe senders" list and your contacts list/address book. Be sure to check Spam/Junk Mail folders as well since most email providers do not let external email programs or cell phones download mail flagged this way.

YES! For the first time in months I finally got the blasted thing to load. It was the .net after all. That'll teach me to be current with windows updates, version 4 just doesnt cut the mustard so to speak. so to all those having this issue, make sure v1.1.4322 is installed. If it is, grab a fresh .exe from Microsoft and reinstall it.

    Good luck.
