Default Death aura graphic needs changing ASAP

After playing 10 minutes with Death Aura on, my eyes hurt and I get a headache. I've been playing DDO since beta and have had sessions of 12 hours straight and never had such issues as those caused by this spell.

The repeated sound effect is also very annoying but the graphic is seriously affecting me. I know this isn't Mahjong and there are graphics that can be intense, but like I said, I never had any problems. The green ever-moving effect is so completely bad for the game, so unappealing, so irritating. It needs something subtle on the eye. The more it shows, the more subtle it has to be. Cleric Implosion has a nice effect but it doesn't show all the time with an awful colour, covering half your screen with moving patterns.

Please prioritise this for the sake of our eyes and the look of the game. Keep the enemy auras like this if you prefer, but our own should not be so "brain-piercing".

I really hope this doesn't have anything to do with you thinking it is "crazy broken". If it is, just reduce the healing it does by a lot, or the frequency it hits. Do anything, as long as the graphic is tolerable, please...

UPDATED - I added some images of "an" example of how it could be done. Basically, the aura could be dead spirits surrounding the Pale Master. They could be just lurking on the floor around his feet or springing out of any area surrounding him. If you want to make it super cool, make the spirits fly towards the enemies and "hit" them as they enter the aura. 3 examples below of minor, medium, and full effects. Notice that the color is quite neutral and easy on the eye. Even the full effect isn't too much, in comparison to the current effect.

Gotta agree here, the main problem is the upper half of the bubble. my suggestion is cut of the graphic at the wast. So it looks more like a Circle not really a bubble as that wouldn't be right in our view giving us headaches or blocking our view.

What a stupid ruling, we all know that D&D promotes satanism, not gangs.

How about just using the effect of Valak's aura? It looks nice and thematically appropriate but is much less intrusive than the "ghost of a watermelon" version.

    Default I agree

I agree the look, and for me, especially the sound is incredibly annoying. I know I can turn off the SFX, but seriously that's just a bad option.

I updated the OP with a suggestion of my own. I don't want them to say that I don't provide constructive suggestions

The purple aura is nice and subtle. Maybe not a blob, but even that would be a lot better. But not the orange rings!!! Those orange rings that emanate and move around his body like hoola-hoops... They are a nice effect for an enemy boss, but I wouln't want that to always be on for my character! That would be even worse!

That looks sweet. Similar to the effect when you cast that level 4 necro spell, necrotic burst, I think.

Hope they consider making a change to that graphic.

I can't stand running next the someone with aura on, drives me nuts! Esp. when you are at just the right distance that it messes up your whole screen.

Don't even get me started on the sound......

    Agree.

If they just give us the same aura what Cleric have, but in Dark Colors that will be acceptable solution. No sound of them, no brain damage from that strange moving green lemon.

Of course example of Sarezar are much more better. But if they don’t have time for this, just made my proposal and we all be happy.

    Agreed yet again.

I've taken to denying pale masters into groups because of the noise and green crud all over..

Feel slightly bad about doin it.. But it's just far too annoying to have around. And it's too useful for them not to use.

I'd do the same to any other caster who used hypnotic pattern alot too. lol

I changed to AM mainly because my eyeballs bleed after a few minutes of running around with death aura on.

The sound should just be removed - its annoying and not needed.

I have to agree as well. The sound is even worse than the green aura in my opinion. I can live with the green, although I'd much prefer something else. As for the sound though, I had to mute all sound effects because I couldn't stand listening to it any longer. Using something similar to the cleric's aura would be fine with me. Almost anything would be better than the way it is now.

OH NOES! DON'T REMOVE THE GREEN BUBBLES O'SQUISHY!

Some of us giants are clever enough to play soccer, and we really really need those bubbles to practice our skills. Those dreaded opponents of us that are called trolls can train with half-orcs heads, but those are too small for us and we had to revert on one of our heads to practice. Of course that method had some negative impact on our team's size, so when we discovered the green bubbles o'squishy we felt like the hand of god was pushing us to victory!

    No

    Please

    Don't

    We need them, for real!

By the way the color of bubble don't matter for us, they always end up being deep red at the end of our training

PS : could female half-elves be improved please ? they make really poor cheerleaders so far.

I have to agree completely. I get that the thought behind was that people would find it cool that they had the same aura that the skeleton casters get -and people probably did, for the first 10 seconds - but its way too much. I dont play a wizard at all but even running with one can be problematic, there are times that his/her aura means i cant see anything around me because the screen is filled with noisey funk.

I think its also worth mentioning that going for something bright and shiney also isnt great due to photo sensitivity. The effect from glitterdust and the end of Von 3 are instant migrane moments that are far from fun. I get that my character is blind but you dont have to blind me too.

Perhaps modify the radiant savant arua to be green/purplish glow for the PM aura? This would probably be faster to implement in the mean time.

I have similar issues with ranger camouflage where it does cause migraines due to the visual pattern.

True. My examples are hasty photoshop effects that I did in 30 mins. The intensity should probably be 25% of what is shown.

Tbh, I would be happy if they completely removed the visual (and audio) effect for now, until they design something nice and easy on the eye.
Also, green and purple are still problematic. Death aura could also be grey or black, which are much smoother colors (if designed properly of course).

I brought this up a few months back when it was originally added. They've modified it but not enough.

The visual and sound effects on death aura both need to be replaced with something subtle.

Hope the devs see this thread.

You know, when I think aura, I don't think "orb", I think "shine"

Maybe just have the caster "shine" slightly with green energy, and a pattern on the ground below the caster that is also green to show what the range is.
