Well the developers know the allowed prefix/suffix that are allowed and what slots can have what stats. So they can limit it to only allow you to create possible requests.

honestly, even just having a text-based entry system where you can request whatever you want would be something. if i could just haul the stuff i consider to be potentially worthwhile loot to the AH, look up "+4 int hat", and see that someone is willing to pay me X plat right this instant, that would be very nice (obviously, the buyer would have to examine any offers and choose to accept or decline manually)

now, one potential problem i could see is, how do you take the 1/3 auction fee? seems like the only way to do that would be to require 150% of what the offerer is putting up as the price, and if nobody takes it the money gets returned to them (there should also be a fee which is not returned, just look putting items up for auction).

who knows, maybe someday i'll be able to find myself a "caster's friend" crossbow with improved cursespewing and improved shattermantle for my sorc :P

There could be something like a "finders fee" imposed, for example if I wanted a lg scale for 500k, the offer would be ~385k + 30% finders fee, taking the 500k from my account into some sort of escrow until a buyer is found/the ad is canceled (with a penalty of course, maybe 10% of the total 500k)
In the end, the person selling makes about the same they would on the ah, and they do 90% of the work for you

    I love this idea

Yeah, the fee can be handled like when you make a bid. The system takes the price you want to pay and then adds a reduced fee. I can see both seller and buyer contributing to the WA [Wanted Ads] fee, 50/50.
