Would I be making a wise decision to trade a ring of spell storing for spectral gloves?
Would I be making a wise decision to trade a ring of spell storing for spectral gloves?
Its really hard to say. I keep thinking that the new mabar cloak is going to make the value of spectral gloves drop by quite a bit.
I recently traded a bloodstone and I got a ring of spell storing + 100k plat. Don't know if that was a good trade, but I did get the ring I wanted! /shrug
In my opinion a RoSS is extremely over rated. Not only is it over rated, but it takes all of 3 minutes to farm the chest that it drops in.
Spectral Gloves are not only more difficult to get, but are more universally useful.
In short: No. IMO that would not be a wise decision.
.
I'm the one with the Ring of Spell Storing.
No. That would be a terrible trade. Keep your ring.
Go run An Offering of Blood 10 times. Check all chests.
Report back here.
RoSS is only worth it when epic'd. Scratch that, it doesn't convey enough. Here we go: an epic ring of spell storing gives a caster the same sort of warm fuzzies a barb gets from an eSoS.
But as someone who has farmed (and has talked to many guildies who have also farmed) for spectral gloves and the ring, let me tell you: the ring is much much much harder to come by.
I don't think it's terrible. Depending on your character, or your build, one might be significantly easier to farm than the other... or less boring. If you can solo one and not the other (usually that means the gloves, since anyone can solo the Ring), than make the trade.
If you are frustrated with your drop rate and you need one, then just trade. Who care's about whether it is a "good value"? You get what you want, and you can move on.
I have multiple copies of both items across many characters. Spectral Gloves are really nice on a melee, although I agree that it may drop in value considerably after the Halloween event. The Ring of Spell Storing is pretty unimpressive when non-epic, since it takes so long to use (3 times, cooldown in between, 25 sp each time). You generally have to remember to use it during downtime or right after buffing, and honestly I don't bother. It is way too slow to use in emergencies after you've already run out of sps.
If I were you, I'd trade the ring away for the gloves.

Would the gloves make you happier and be of more use to you then the ring?
If the answer is yes, then it's a good trade. Don't worry about other opinions, worry about which item you could make better use of. Now, if this were a trade for plat and you were worried if the amount offered was too low - I can see asking about it. But, when it comes down to items such as these - go with what you will make you a happier player.
I'm with Calebro on this one. My first life I spent a long time in the desert checking bloodstone & spellstoring ring chests. When I finally pulled a RoSS I was so excited briefly, until I realized I was now level 17 and the +75 sp wasn't worth the time it took to invoke. It came in handy very occasionally when I was that few sp short of casting the last spell I wanted, but in general the 75 sp isn't enough to make a difference.
On the other hand, +2 to-hit and the ability to hit incorp targets (not to mention the +5 dex) comes in very handy for melee toons. Spectral gloves are the better item.
Cheers,
Kernal
I see some terrible advice in here.
If you feel yourself going for that ol' gag "if it's worth it to you, than it's a good trade" as if giving up your home is worth a set of some shiny new dubs (they spinnin'!), than I would suggest this trade:
2 pairs of Spectral Gloves for the Ring.
I pulled 6 sets of spectral gloves, and I see at least a set drop for someone in group during each tr.
I've only pulled 1 RoSS in my 3+ years, and that was out of the epic queen chest.
And it does exactly what a craptastic mnemonic pot that you found inside the waterworks does.
3+ years of grinding for something that is exceeded by random drops in the Market quests.
And you think it's a more valuable item than +2 to hit, +5 dex, and ghost touch?
Sorry, but I think you're crazy.

I've been called worse by better.
The point, though, is that the rarity of the item he holds is worth far more than the item he seeks...they are not in the same category.
He wants something that he can use now (Spectrals) over an item that will take time to mature but is among the most coveted in the game (eRoSS - 3 MMPs/rest).
He's got a vintage shelby cobra in the barn that hasn't run for 20 years, but he needs transportation to get to work. IT'S NOT AN EQUITABLE TRADE.
My advice, figure out a way to get your spectrals without losing the ross.
The important part is in red. You can leave the rest of the sentence off.
If he can get the gloves without losing the ring, fine.
He's been here for a year, and this is his first post. I'm assuming he needs the stuff now, and that he won't be epic'ing the ring any time soon. So I'm not here to advise on his financial future.
If a guy gets a new job, you don't tell him to immediately buy the biggest house he can find, just because it will appreciate in value. You get him to start smaller and build up. He doesn't buy a huge house and struggle to pay for it. He buys a smaller house that he can comfortably afford while he saves up for the bigger home worth more.
He keeps what he can use, and saves the large investments for later, when he can afford the risk.
Could he get more then the gloves for the ring? Sure, depending on the other player.
Is anyone getting ripped off? No, not if everyone is getting what they want out of it.
Different items are worth varying values to different players. A new player will certainly hold the Gloves to a higher value, as would some others such as myself.
They're pixels on the screen. They only hold whatever value we individually grant them.
.
But he also has an apartment.
So which has more personal value, the mansion that he doesn't use or the car that he doesn't own?
Claiming flawed logic in a matter of opinion is the part that's flawed.
That's what this boils down to. What is each item worth to him? Only the OP can answer that.
