Default Mouse look or cursor mode?

I may have already brought this up, but i can't find my old thread where i discuss this. I know that the Razer Naga and Anasai are the best for MMO gaming. but one thing i would like to know once I get them (I'm 14. don;t exactly have a steady income), should i use mouse look mode for turning and direction look, or should i use cursor mode, use q & e for turning and select things individually? Some prompt help would be much appreciated.

For most things, I'm a mouse-look / ESDF player. I tend to react a lot faster that way. For things that might need a little extra control (i.e. a hireling or extra abilities and spells that aren't on a hotbar) I'll drop out of mouselook and just use the cursor. I also don't use auto-attack outside of a very few situations.

Running the game without mouselook is far too reminiscent of how a gamepad plays and I've just never been able to get used to doing that. Granted, it's what I grew up with. Out of my friends, I'm the only one who plays this way. The rest of them (all of them play a lot of Xbox) don't like mouselook... even when swimming.

Try both and see what you like or, like me, be kind of hybrid and get the best of both!
It occurs to me that the dice are being rolled by the same computer that's trying to kill me. It knows all the moves - it's just toying with me.

I prefer mouse look. Left mouse button is set to DDO Classic Interact/Steer, hold it down to go into mouse look and release for cursor, nice and quick to swap between the two modes.

I like mouse look mode, but it's really an individual preference. Nobody can tell you that one way is better than the other, it's just what works best for you.

This is not really a ? for the masses.

    Reasons:

I use both depends on the Toon.
What is comfortable to you is not comfortable to me.
    I use a G500 fully weight'd and max'd sensitivity.

Edit: AND a FREE mouse works just fine 2.

Save your money. I've had two mice by Razer (including the Naga). Build quality is aweful and they fall apart within a few months. An inexpensive Logitech will work just fine.

    Set Q and E for strafe L + R, use pointer look.

At least that's what I do, and i tend to have a lot of control over my character.

Always mouse-look. It's superior since you can control the speed of your turns. Using the buttons they are stuck to the set turning speed and you cannot make it slower for precision, or turn quicker for reaction speed. In DDO combat you need to move quickly and precisely.

Also if you cast spells, you need to use the reticule for some, and you cannot aim well at targets that are not enemies without mouse-look (for example placing a Web in front of advancing mobs). Also you need to turn around to face mobs quickly to not whiff your spell due to incorrect facing. Likewise if you use ranged weapons -you can hit a monster that is partly behind cover if you don't target it but just aim at the part that is not obscured.

I have mapped F for switching between mouse-look/cursor for when I need to click on things, and moved voice to V.

DDO is one of few MMOs using this superior first-person shooter control, it's a shame not to learn to use it IMO.

Edit: And I had a Razer since they came out and it works great.

I use mouselook by holding down the right mouse button with attack on the left. Use WASD to move and E to interact with stuff. I think that's the standard setup because I havent changed anything. I do really like my Razor mouse. Those 12 buttons on the thumb allow me to cast spells rather easily. I haven't had any problems with that mouse and have had it for.... hmmm 9 months I think.

    I use mouselook.

I also have my scroll-wheel button set for "Use Item" as its' quicker to pick things up that way. I use my top thumb button for ingame "Push-to-talk". I used to use the bottom button for Ventillo PTT, when I was in a guild that used Vent.

I will never own another Razer product... Their "customer service", when all I needed was to replace a mouse cable, boiled down to "Sucks to be you... Go buy a new mouse". So I bought a Microsoft Sidewinder that's lasted three times longer.

    Mouse look all the way.

Only time I use the cursor is to switch non-weapon gear, activate clickies on items, and use min/level buffs.

If I'm in the heat of combat, I almost never go out of mouse look, even on my Wizard. And I feel like it gives me a major advantage over people I see who seem to use cursor-mode predominantly. Better placement of spells, especially web and firewall, faster and more accurate movement meaning more time engaged in melee with mobs, much easier time in "Mario" areas like Coal Chamber, etc.

What I do is assign my most used abilities to a mouse-button/Q, R, F keys + modifier combo. My mouse has three extra buttons (middle, and two side buttons), and I use shift, caps-lock, and ctrl as modifiers (plus the button alone).

I use mouse buttons mostly for spells, monk strikes, and action boosts.

I also use Q, R, and F with those modifiers. Q-based combos for top 3 weapon sets, R-based for consumables (heal/recon scrolls, hast/rage/curse pots), and on my Wizard, Quicken and Extend, and on my Monk and Wizard, F for more spells/strikes, generally the single-target CC ones (Stunning Fist/Blow, Kakun-do, Jade Prison; Resistable Dance SLA, Flesh to Stone, Irresistable Dance)

I use the low numbers for less common weapon sets on my Melee, and generally long-casting-time spells on my Wizard (Disco ball, cloudkill, etc.)

E is activate object, shift-E is cycle non-combat targets (the default behavior of Q), and I also set ctrl-Z to "select first dialog option". I use Alt as my block key, since I can use my thumb to press it, and never need to block and jump at the same time.
