Lightbulb Gem (DDO) for Unbinding : Bound to Character

    Hi,

If DDO was to introduce a Gem (that you placed in Stone of Change with the Item) which took the "Bound to Character" of an item but say left the "Bound on Equip" on the item so you could transfer to another character or AH it. Or Unbound an Item which you no longer wanted (and you had personally bound) I would think that ppl would buy it - especially if it was not to expensive ?

As long as it only unbinds something that was not originally bound (like something you bound with Khyber dragonshards) I could see this, but as for raid loot and such, no.

This would remove the consequence of binding things, and unbinding things like raid loot would be ridiculous. If you want the benefit of an item not taking damage enough to bind an item, it should stay bound.

Something of this sort will never be implemented. If I am proven wrong, I will post a picture of me nude in whipped cream on these forums.

So yeah, that's how sure I am.

P.S. This is just my opinion so ignore me if you like. I do not base my opinions on facts nor balancing issues.

I agree with Trillea an item to unbind items that were bound with the stone of change would be acceptable and most balanced.

I would like to add an idea for raid loot that is bound to char, another stone that changes it to bound to account until equiped then changes it back to bound to char. 3 Torc drops for my pally, 2 SOS for my FvS/Cleric would be nice to get those on my chars that can actually use them instead of putting them up for roll. And yes I understand it could be abused.

Raid loot should never be anything but BtC. People putting raid loot up for roll would go out the window for good, and that would be awful.

Bound items bind for a reason, they are powerful. If you can't/won't use it, pass it on to someone in your group who can. If you bound an item via the stone of change ritual, of course it is bound for life so that it never takes damage.

Imagine seeing the AH flooded with previously bound items. It makes less reason to play the game.

I think the suggestion was to make it BtA, to transfer between alts. SoS on an arcane is useless, but a Paladin might enjoy it. But, the AH woulds still be flooded with junk that was never bound to begin with, and is vastly over priced. Though that must be coming down, because I grabbed a +6 WIS item off it for 5k plat. Have no need for it yet, since it'd put me at an odd number, but oh well.

Still, not signed. It's part of playing an MMO; you only get **** you have no use for.

Why would it be so awful? My personal opinion, and keep in mind it's an opinion and I don't expect you to share it:

Last night I got 3 ToD belts that I would have used on my paladin or wizard while I was on my barbarian. Happens constantly and no one even wanted them it happens so often.

I've now run every amrath quest 3-4 times on my barb and never gotten a single FB item but I've gotten very near everything else. However, I've got the FB items on my paladin that I want for my barb. If I could at least share them on my account I wouldn't feel like 90% of the runs I make are pointless.

My point being that the drop rates are high, you're likely to get something you can use on one of your toons in any given run. If you didn't get what you wanted on the current toon, run it with the next one tomorrow and try again.

I don't think it would decrease the odds all that much. Guild Wars didn't have a concept of bind to character or account and the economy thrived and I never had any issues getting what I wanted.

I also think you folks are missing another consequence. It requires DDO store points, which not everyone has unlimited access to and often requires real world money. If unbinding something has a monetary cost I'd say it's got plenty of consequence to balance out the benefits you reaped from binding it in the first place.

Hypothetically I'd consider paying 10 dollars IRL to unbind a bloodstone that I bound for instance just to share it with another toon at some point.

almost everything I get that is bound is useless so I have to junk it I really wish there was a way to let people that want it to have it.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of binding?
