Pfft...it was far from a hate attack...I am simply stating the facts.......no matter how fast you do it u can only get XP so fast in this game...and it pretty much equates to neglecting your health and/or sleep to do it.....both of which in fact are unhealthy.

Sorry, sitting glued to your comp for hours at a time playing an MMO is not healthy period....and that is a fact!

Please keep your fanboi affections for speed leveler's to yourself as well.

P.S.....no I am not afraid or your rep bar.

The word FACT is being tossed around a lot here, but seems to only be backed by assumptions.

While you can only get XP so fast in this game, there are tricks when leveling up a character that can allow you to do things a lot faster than you may expect. As I alluded to in an earlier post in this thread, it isn't uncommon to hit upwards of 3k/minute from a quest.

Beyond that, while there are habits generally displayed by people who "sit glued to a computer" that can lead to poor health, almost all of these are external and have little to nothing to do with the direct result of playing the game or sitting in front of a computer.

Suppose I wake up at 6 AM after a good sleep, hit the gym for an hour, and put in 14 hours of straight play. Gosh, that is a lot right? Well, assuming also that my meal choices were nutritious throughout the day, please tell me what evidence you have to support this sort of behavior leading to poor health. I'd be rather impressed if you came up with any legitimate FACT.

So's wouldn't the people who did it the fastest be the healthiest then? I mean, the fast peeps are done...the slowbies are still grindin'. Sounds super unhealthy to stretch it out.

DDO OCD? I can believe that. It would explain a lot of grinder behavior.

Not really, sitting at your computer 14 hours a day playing an MMO pretty much negates a lot of the healthy stuff your doing by afflicting you with all the unhealthy aspects of prolonged playing per day.

I mean, I am not some person who is against video games, you know I am not here trying to bash DDO........and I have definitely had my share of long playing days.....albeit I do not make it a habit to do so. I'm just saying...sleeping a full 8 hours a day, going to the gym one hour a day and then playing the game 14 hours a day really doesn't leave you much else to accomplish in your life.

To the person who posted after this reply, no the slower TR's would not be unhealthier, because they actually pay attention to other important aspects of their life...I just don't see how playing 14-16 hours a day allows that....and would be very hard pressed to ever believe it would be healthy......but hey....a large percentage of the US population likes killing themselves anyways with processed food, overwork, stress...why not throw excessive gameplay into the mix...what the heck...cheers.

Sorry, I won't be joining you....knock yourself out tho.

    Bwa ha ha ha ha!

Yeah, members of my PUGs are always dropping b/c they "gtg... I have to hit the gym for an hour before work." or "thnks for the quest ever1 but I gtg and train for my marathon now."

The funniest statement was "after a good sleep." We all know hard core gamers don't sleep. Well, maybe half-elves...

    Default What a lame discussion.

What right do you have to insult another's choices on how they spend their day. How clean their house is. A little full of ourselves are we?

Just because some people can maximize their xp to get an average of 1000xp/min and you can't is not enough of a reason to insult them.

Either learn to step up your game to that level, or accept the fact that some people can do something you cannot without taking it personal.

I happen to know several people that can level a TR2 in a week. I am not quite as fast, taking between 2weeks and a month depending on my level of work and motivation to play. It is neither good nor bad that they can level faster.

But that was my original point, that assuming the other areas in your life are aligned, playing a video game for 14 hours isn't going to negatively impact your physical health. It can certainly start to have an impact on your social life if you make it a habit, but once again, DDO appeals to people from all walks of life, and unless you know an individual's full story it's impossible to say whether what they're doing is unhealthy or not.

I prefer to play DDO in a healthy body where I can come and go as I please, not be forced to play it because it's all I can do as I am laying in a hospital bed with tubes sticking out of my arms.
How do you know the person/people that do that aren't sitting in a hospital bed?

A guy I know was injured at his job years ago. He has been having problems with his knee constantly for years, to the point that he hasn't been able to work because of not being able to walk on it. He just spent the last 2 months in a hospital for different complications and infections in his knee. Finally after switching to a different hospital and doctor they were able to do the right thing for it.
As it stands, he has another month where he is completely unable to walk on it and isn't allowed out of bed.

Would you not agree that it is entirely possible for somebody in a situation like that to be able to spend 10/12/16 hours a day sitting there playing a video game?

I mean really, if I was injured to the point that I wasn't allowed to even get out of bed, I would send somebody to buy me a laptop just so I could have something else to do besides stare at the idiot box, dreaming about blowing my brains out after watching all that stupid stuff on it.

Also have to look at people who work for themselves and spend hours a day sitting in front of a computer already. I know when I fix other people's computers I spend about 15 minutes doing something and then an hour waiting on the computer to do it's thing. Why can't you be playing the game while their computer is downloading stuff and scanning and all that junk?

On another note, when I played a mud, it took me just about a year to max out my first character. Shortly after I did that, one of the older more accomplished players got a fresh character to top level in 3 days.
How were they able to do that? They had the experience to know exactly where to level. They had a stockpile of equipment for each level to maximize their stats and killing ability. They had a static group of people who were there to group with them to make everything run that much quicker.

Sure your average player isn't going to be able to tr2 or even cap first time very quickly. but once you know what you are doing and are able to twink your character and if you have a group of people to play with you, getting to cap isn't as much of a chore as it is going to be for some fresh newbie.

Edit: Also, since there is the talk about sitting in front of your computer all day playing a game just not being healthy. I have a Recumbent Exercise Bike. My daily routine, after being at work for 11 hours was to come home, hop on the bike and play playstation3 for about an hour then hop off and take a show and play for about another hour.

On my days off, I would spend 2 or 3 hours a day riding my bike while playing games.

One of these days I plan on making a stand to hold a keyboard and mouse so I can ride and play PC games at the same time.

Just because most people resourceful enough to find a way to exercise and play games at the same time doesn't mean that it isn't possible.

Another little tidbit to throw in to this.

Where I work, we have a security gate, the only entrance to the lot. It is manned by a single security guard who's job it is to sign in and out non-employees(Truck drivers). They work 12 hour shifts. The only time they are allowed to leave their booth is on weekends and holidays when the factory is shut down and they have to do a security walkthru. That is a 12 hour shift with almost no activity at all except for at shift change where they have to take id's of people dropping off or picking up employees and the occasional truck during the shift.

Other than sitting there they have no responsibilities. It is entirely possible for them to sit there and play a game for that entire 12 hour shift minus the time they are actively letting people in and out of the gate.

Was smokinz Turkish Royals at my 'puter while I brought my tr through TR, for Three Runs. Then I ate fattening Teriyaki 'n Rice chicken from a Thai Restraunt, then I Totally Relaxed myself...Then Repeated. Totally Ridiculously unhealthy to have a tr.

Recently TRed again, another 4.4mil exp to get :P
This time I have a goal tho, I plan to run every single quest on the list up to elite and actually read what quest givers say! Makes it more interesting to me and not so much of a mindless grind, somehow.

I don't want to speed level most of the time. I get accused of "zerging" when I join an especially pokey group , but I hav been in groups with real zergers and it's a thrill just trying to keep up with them sometimes - even if I don't actually get involved in any of the fights.

I think that going out to a bar and watching sports while drinking every night is unhealthy. I'm not going to pretend that my opinion is a fact or some kind of revealed Truth handed down from on high.

If someone wants to level up their character quickly and they have fun playing DDO, then that's their business. I'm pretty sure that they don't need to check into either the Betty Ford Clinic or their local emergency room after power leveling their shiny new Half Orc.

I don't think that I'll ever do a double TR because it's much too grindy for me and I know that I move too slowly through quests to actually be able to pull off the large number of quest repeats that I would need to make a double TR happen. I'm not going to throw stones at the people who choose to do so, however, because it's their choice.

I happen to think that it's unhealthy to spew negativity on internet forums the way that you did, but that's your business.

Don't think anyone was insulting here but mean while there was this last month
Mother obsessed with computer game ignored children and let two dogs starve to death
    this a few months back
Internet Addicts Guilty Of Starving Baby To Death While Tending To Virtual Child
    and today this
Jacksonville police announce arrests in baby slaying where the Mum shook her 3 year todler to death because he was crying and interrupting while she played a computergame.

Question: did these people play 2 hours a day or 10 hours+ a day and is it something to be proud of and should we really step up our game? I realize these are extreme and dreadful examples but uhm...nah, no thanks, doesn't look like playing 10+/day is very healthy. In fact I am off to do the dishes right now!

I hear that some people also listen to the rock and the roll and then go out and commit crimes, too! And some people even take the drugs and then engage in sexual activities!

These are not examples of how computer games caused a mental illness that ruined someone's life. These are examples of how someone's existing illness manifested. A guy was just arrested recently after he left his young child in his car for more than 24 hours while he went drinking, but I'm pretty sure that my wife can have a beer without my needing to fear for my children's safety.

Although I'm a jackwad...I also have two awesome kids with another on the way. That's sickening man...I can't imagine ignoring them. I couldn't give two craps what group I'm in, if my kids actually need something...wow. It's not healthy...I don't really have a tr either.
