Assuming you eat 3 meals a day, all made of pizza, that it takes 1 person to fly a space shuttle, earth has an infinite amount of space shuttles, the current space shuttle could get to mars, and 1 pizza weighs 566 grams(the weight of 1 red baron pepperoni pizza, because woo red baron) we get 43,109 pizzas per space shuttle flight. This will feed the first 2 people(you+delivery guy) for 19.7 years.
It's not that much of a problem for a few millenia, when you need to start sending multiple shuttles to feed the population of mars for 1 meal, that it gets bad.
... I'm almost tempted to find out when the entire population of earth would be on mars delivering pizza.
Eukaryotes followed the earliest prokaryotes (archaea, bacteria) at around 3.5 billion years ago...though some argue that the 3 domains emerged simultaneously. I favor the bacteria + archaea being the oldest, emerging from a common acellular life that possibly used an RNA-like molecule with a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon scaffold. (RNA precessed DNA.) archaea and eukarya share a common ancestor that may have had emerged some 3 billion years ago.
The evidence from Mars is still contentious, I suppose. Magnetite organized in a way that we only see biologically here and possible nanobacteria...though not everyone accepts that nanobacteria exists.
If we could isolate Martian prokaryote-like life that would be amazing. Prokaryotes are the predominant form of biomass here and we have only been able to closely study some 0.5% of the estimated prokaryotic diversity...can only isolate in pure culture only about 0.2%
You would be able to go back to earth. There is no way that once humans establish themselves on Mars they wouldn't want to send stuff back. And, due to the 1/3 gravity well, it's a hell of a lot easier to get from Mars to Earth than from Earth to Mars. It just wouldn't be scheduled.
And yeah, I'd go in a heartbeat.
Fuel could be developed there after awhile from the hydrogen in the water. It will take awhile to work effectively of course but it can be done. Also there is new techology being developed now and no doubt over the years for even better technologies and fuels will be developed for cheaper and easier travel.
With the weaker gravity of Mars, a space elevator currently being developed here might actually make more sense and work better with an environment of lower gravity of Mars. A cheap space elevator would provide a quicker means of getting material off Mars than rockets would. Once an active transfer of goods coming from Mars via trade, the more Mars would draw the adventurous people and businesses to see what the endless possiblities living on Mars or elsewhere could bring to, everyone.

As long as I could have hydroponics and the ability to physically harm people for being impolite without fear of prosecution, yeah I could see it. Frontiers, new worlds, ah the glory of it. Places where everyone packs a weapon and try not to set each other off. The poor internet connection would be a drag though.
I could live without DDO, as addicted as I am. If I had a group of friends, food, and a lot of paper I'd be good to go. I love to write, and I would bring my DnD books for gaming with friends. My gf wouldn't want to though, I'm sure. She likes to get out of the house more, so that'd be the factor keeping me or sending me.
You don´t get more out of life then you put in to it.
I would go in a heartbeat. I am in the waste water treatment industry. Needless to say, I doubt what I do for a living will ever give me the opportunity to be recognized in history. I would tell my friends and family. I would pack some gear, and I would sit back and enjoy the ride.
And yes, you could have my stuff!
As a caveat. You do notice that even the chosen to go to Mars should be "Self Sufficient", DDO players should recognize!

Do not drink the awesome-sauce......One must BE the awesome-sauce.
Of course I would go.
The only danger is if they send us to that terrible planet of the apes...
On the contrary waste utilization, closed loop nitrogen/carbon/sulfur/etc. cycling will be critically important to long term colonization. In fact there's probably a job available for you at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. The use of sludge will probably be employed in some way, I'd expect including anaerobic digestion...if your sludge crashes it isn't like you can just ship some more over. Technicians will make-or-break such an endeavor, scientists are effectively passengers and engineers will have to be very good technicians in their own right. (For those of you that don't know being a good engineer is not the same as being a good technician.)
I think ArloOne meant that they wouldn't be recognised in history for what they do here on Earth, going on the trip to Mars would be there opportunity. The fact that they have skills that would or could be useful for the mission just adds to the fact that they could make a contribution.

They should send warforged, not people. We don't need to breathe, eat, or drink. It would be cheaper to send us, and cheaper for us to stay there.
My Videos Shadow Mage (ok, it's a build now)
A forum post should be like a skirt - long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.
Britches and Hose kidnapped my dog and are forcing him to farm Shroud ingredients.
We need to hurry up and figure out how to properly clone humans, then send the clones to Mars... too Star Wars?
Well how about Replicants? Just figure out a way to make them live longer than 4 years... will they need memories on Mars?
I guess it won't matter, since it's a one way trip.
As for me, personally... I'm 39 with a wife and 2 children, so no, not gonna be going to Mars.
