Earthgrab is a pretty good option as it can dish out decent damage and is cheap on larges, but it won't do anything against red/purple critters.

You could always do something ridiculous like Elemental Mastery.

Vacuumfor tts or dust for things like constructs or elec immune enemies.

Though i'd rather just go farm epic desert stuff for the thornlord if you're not gonna use a lit II...

    Default TtS Proc Rate

So depending on your content and what mobs you're fighting will really depend on it's usefulness. It is, however, an awesome feeling to go into epic hit a manyshot and take out 2 or so mobs at full hp.
I finished my TtS bow last night and went to play in Taming the Flames just to see. 70 elementals down (assuming 10 hits per elemental to kill) = 700 shots, garnished 7 gems. So it seems that for that sample anyway the proc rate is ~1%

    Does this sound right?

    That's a 99% confidence interval of 0.99% to 1.01%.

Although I must say that your data looks suspiciously rounded.

That doesn't count the TTS procs that they saved. I run epic Devil's Assault on my rogue t hat dual wields Vacuum II's and the more negative levels I hit them with in result to sneak attacks and/or the caster (or even DPS) hits them with dreamspitter the more gems I get.

About a week ago I had a run with a melee running around with just a dreamspitter. There were about 202 kills give or take a few and we had collected 26 soul gems.

26 soul gems/202 kills = 1 out of every 12.87 mobs was killed with vacuums.

So your results will defer based on build (me being a rogue with ToD set bonus to negative level) and your party make up and gear set.

The 70 kills is as reported by the scenario, so confident of that one. The 7 gems are in my pack, so that is good too. The 10 shots per elemental is a guesstimate, not counted.

I used Taming the Flames (CR7) so as to minimise the saves (DC30?).

Biggest issue I suppose is that they are CR7 mobs and are therefore more likely to die before the TtS procs. With epic mobs even a 1% proc is going to get a larger percentage of mobs as they last longer.

    1. Epic Thornlord (just had to refer this)
    2. Lightning Strike
3/4/5. Earthgrab vs reflex, Freezing Ice vs fortitude, Trap The Soul vs will. Know your enemies.
