Announcement about DDOcast's future

This is very true. Out of the three or four DDO related podcasts I've listened to, DDOcast was the clear winner for me. I very much enjoyed the news segments because they weren't laden with opinion and seemed to focus on the facts much like other newscasts do. Jerry, you and your sense of professionalism will be missed.

What I liked was that Jerry kept (sad with past tense) a mostly neutral stance himself, while at the same time inviting guests that were often opinionated. That's a good way of keeping the "base" of the show stable and grounded while not letting it get too predictable -various crackpot excursions by the guests ensured that.

Let's hope that since Jerry did this news-type of podcast so well, others felt that they had to "do something else". And that that means someone else can pick up the gauntlet and produce another DDO podcast in this style. Of course, barring that Jerry won't continue to do some sort of new podcast while getting paid (hope not in TP! ) by Turbine...

I'm announcing that this Friday's show, Episode 191, will be my last. Why? Turbine is giving me the chance to realize a life-long dream. I have often hoped for an opportunity to work in the gaming industry, and to now be able to work for my absolute favorite MMO developer is truly an honor and a privilege. It's a little early to tell you what I will be doing specifically, but I promise that I'll have more to say soon.

And this thread is not temporarily stickied because why?

Why I like/d DDOCast so much was because since Jerry was such a safe and reliable driver, taking each episode to its destination in one piece, it left a lot of room for the kids in the backseat to be funny and goofy, and for the co-driver to provide enlightening information about the sights each episode passed. (And of course Clankenbeard with his infinite Wisdom was the David Attenborough-type in the front passenger seat, not one of the backseat goofers ).

To just have backseat goofers, or knowledgeable co-drivers can be fun and/or informative, but you won't get anywhere really and might get tired of staying in the same place after a while... you need someone at the steering wheel.

You've read my mind! I will leave it up to others to determine whether I succeeded, but that is exactly how I always pictured it too. I agree as well, I'm hoping that this decision spurs someone else to do their own thing.

And Clankenbeard, I would argue that your treatise on Ability Scores is one of the most informative things that was ever on the show!

You REALLY want to work for Turbine, Inc.?

I mean no disrespect to those who work or are related to a worker at Turbine, but in all honesty, despite the salary and the benefits you 'may' gain from this job, I think this is a bad move for you to make. Why? Despite the successes of DDO:EU, LotR online and several other of Turbine's products, it's the company itself that worries me. For starters, your security could be at risk; during the small time that Turbine released 'the wall' in a effort to give players more chances at gaining TP, some of the 'advertisers' managed to gain player information, despite what Turbine said about how 'the wall' collects information.

Furthermore, with so many things in-game with bad descriptions about item effects and many other things, it is possible, though not certain, that the benefits you think you can gain are actually something different, either partially or entirely. I can partially see where this problem stems from; game developers and engineers tend to learn a lot of advanced concepts about their profession, and with that, they often have trouble simplifying descriptions into layman terms, which in turn, leads to more assumptions that need to be made. But even if you read everything Turbine gives you throughly, it is still possible to be confused about or misinterpret things that they may tell you, though it is not certain.

I have never applied for Turbine, nor do I plan to apply at Turbine, let alone the gaming industry, and as you wish us good luck, I wish you good luck in this job and that it gives you the benefits you dream of achieving! Who knows? Maybe this job will pay off in so many ways that you couldn't possibly imagine! If it does, don't hesisitate to let us know someday! But at the same time, it's not too late to turn back. It never is. If you have your doubts about Turbine, or any company you apply for, don't hesitate to ask, or decline the offer they make.

You do know that Turbine is now owned ompletely by Warner Bros. Something tells me they aren't going anywhere. The wall was shown to be a bad idea, and it has not returned.

Sense episode 24 I have listened to your show even was going to try to do a segment on the show. But when I seen that this was it I almost fell out of my seat. But Jerry best of luck and hope you crit rolls are as good there and buff the game up with more great content like your show was.
