Although I have said it before in person, I'll say it again. Huge Congratulations Jerry!

Although I have only played for around 6 months DDOCast has been an amazing influence for me. DDO has been far more interesting for having your show to listen to. DDOCast led me to find the Sacred Flame Guardians on Sarlona as my guild, as well as good times with the Build Guild.

Thanks for everything you have done, and thanks for letting me be a part of the show these last weeks. We will all miss your contribution to the community.

    Grats Jerry.

Hopefully this is a start of something better for you and can continue to benefit the community and game in a different way. I have been listening to DDOCast at work a little over a year now and will be sad to not see a new podcast come in.

Good luck and do not forget us!

I feel like I'm signing a birthday card or a condolences card on the death of a family member. Or maybe both. There's so much to say and so few words that feel like they have anything near the right shape to fill the gaping void... After reading through this thread I just have to agree. With it all. DDOCast became if not THE foundation at least a part of the foundation of my burgenoning gaming skills. And your show is DEFINITELY what kept my finger on the pulse of the community/game development. I was listening to DDOCast long before I was actively perusing the forums. Thank you for your consistent efforts on our behalf and I can think of no better way to close than with a 'real life' modification of your signature closing line thrown right back at'cha.

Great news! Congratulations, Jerry. I can't wait to hear what you'll be doing.

Thanks for doing DDO Cast for so long. I had fun being interviewed on one of the earlier shows.

I'm literally speechless, I just don't know what to say. It's humbling to read such nice things about the show and what it means to folks. All I can say is while this is an ending to the show, it's also the start of something amazing. *sheds a tear*

/looks down at your long list of characters.

If the other Turbine folks (including Merlask) are any examples I'm guessing a lot of folks will be missing you in game as well since the practice seems to be Turbine employees can't be identified when running non +characters. I'd guess that would be a hard transition for you as well. Do they at least give you some free char renames so you can keep playing your old characters?

My DDO experience will be vastly different (for the worse ) without Jerry and DDOcast to listen to every week. As a long-time listener, thanks Jerry for all you have done. Best of luck with what you have lined up at Turbine.

I will find out more about how this works I imagine when I actually start working there. I know (as Merlask said way back when) that the old characters can no longer be played publicly, but how exactly it's transitioned is unknown to me. I'm sure ethical considerations prevent the dev folks from being identified with specific "normal" (aka - non-+) characters, but whether they have a way to bring their old characters into new roles or start over with new characters completely remains to be seen. It's definitely a hard part to lose my characters, but at the same time I'm seeing it as being able to wrap up their story the way I'd like. It's a tough sacrifice to change how I play and with whom, it's just one of those transitions that has to be accepted.

    Gratz Jerry

I know you will be excellent in your new position.

Now that I think of it. Given your background I think maybe we the players and fans of DDO may be in for a treat.

Good Luck to you, and have fun

    Talking No More DDoCast

No More DDoCast?!? It's the end of an era. Sob. Here's Clanky's thoughts on this:

    1. Awesome news Jerry! Way to go! You are very deserving of such an honor! It's a strange and coincidental shame really, because Lessah and I were just about to donate tons of money to DDoCast. I think I had just typed the third zero when I got your pre-emptive tweet. Oh well. No point now.

    2. There's no way Jerry will be able to use voice chat again in game. His voice is too distinctive to stay anonymous in any group. One "cool cool" and everybody will be all "You're that DDoCast guy that is now a Dev!" You may have to give up the game and assume the fetal position in a cave somewhere.

    3. I hope Jerry gets to do the voicework for at least one quest--hopefully more. Maybe add in his distinctive DDoCast music for a short bit if allowable.

    4. I hope Jerry still gets to interact with us lowly players. He is quite the cool cool guy. I would hate to think he will be sequestered in some dark back room with his red Swingline stapler and be forced to broadcast pre-written propagandist dialogue to us masses.

    5. Clanky hereby predicts DOOOOOOOOOM for the current DDoCast. Doooooom! That podcast in its current stated isn't going to last more than one more episode. I called it first. Doooom!

    6. I think we should start a thread (or continue here) to help Jerry pick a new and appropriate Forum name. Clanky hereby recommends one of the following:
    • FauxMallard
    • SlightlyDeadlierGazebo
    • Mouth
    • Raggamuffin
    • CryerCool
    • CaptainOfOuterSpace
    • NotClankenbeard
    • AwesomeSauce

Congrats! Seems to be well deserved, listening to you on ddocast has always managed to respark my interest of DDO.

The DDOCast will be sorely missed, it has been a highlight of the DDO community and frankly the best videogame podcast i've heard, i hope it manages to continue in some form.

You REALLY want to work for Turbine, Inc.?

I mean no disrespect to those who work or are related to a worker at Turbine, but in all honesty, despite the salary and the benefits you 'may' gain from this job, I think this is a bad move for you to make. Why? Despite the successes of DDO:EU, LotR online and several other of Turbine's products, it's the company itself that worries me. For starters, your security could be at risk; during the small time that Turbine released 'the wall' in a effort to give players more chances at gaining TP, some of the 'advertisers' managed to gain player information, despite what Turbine said about how 'the wall' collects information.

Furthermore, with so many things in-game with bad descriptions about item effects and many other things, it is possible, though not certain, that the benefits you think you can gain are actually something different, either partially or entirely. I can partially see where this problem stems from; game developers and engineers tend to learn a lot of advanced concepts about their profession, and with that, they often have trouble simplifying descriptions into layman terms, which in turn, leads to more assumptions that need to be made. But even if you read everything Turbine gives you throughly, it is still possible to be confused about or misinterpret things that they may tell you, though it is not certain.

I have never applied for Turbine, nor do I plan to apply at Turbine, let alone the gaming industry, and as you wish us good luck, I wish you good luck in this job and that it gives you the benefits you dream of achieving! Who knows? Maybe this job will pay off in so many ways that you couldn't possibly imagine! If it does, don't hesisitate to let us know someday! But at the same time, it's not too late to turn back. It never is. If you have your doubts about Turbine, or any company you apply for, don't hesitate to ask, or decline the offer they make.
