    Default Spell Pen and TR.

    Passive feats...

    FvS gives +1 to spell pen
    Wiz gives +2 to spell pen

    Both can be stacked x3 giving +9 to spell pen if you TR that many times.

    So....

    How much spell pen would actually be necessary to always pass the spell pen check?

    Without TR, the conventional wisdom is if you want to land any DC spells you need all three enhancements, should work in the two feats and and item is also helpful.

    Even with all these on my Wiz/Rogue, I don't always pass the spell pen. The rogue levels don't help but it was worth it. Most of the time, I pass my spell pen.

    If I TR my Wiz one time, I can skip taking one of the feats and put something else there.

    If I TR enough times to get all those passive feats, I can skip taking the 2 feats and 2 enhancements or take a spell pen feat and skip the enhancements and put those AP into something else. I'll still come out ahead.

    Really though, how much spell pen is needed?

    Amrath denizens have huge amounts of spell resistance.

    And it depends on what your 10th life is entailing. If you are mostly going with damage spells, then you don't need any spell pen at all. If you want to spam things like Waves, Flesh To Stone, Energy Drain, Wail/Implosion, Finger/Destruction, then you want all the spell pen you can get ahold of. Whether or not that's worth 9(!) extra TR's is an issue of just how much level grinding you are willing to endure.

    I've been thinking about adding in sorcerer for +1 to evocation and cleric for +1 to conjuration. Doing both x3 for those passive feats.

    Then on my final as a Wiz, I don't want to have to take up those feats or enhancements for spell pen. Possibly freeing up the feat slots for a spell focus/greater spell focus enchantment maybe add in a necromancy and instead of using the spell pen enhancements fill in a second spell enhancement line such as force and fit in Archmage.

    Just kicking around some ideas and wondering what is needed.
