Default New Player 32 Point Rogue/Ranger Advice

    Hello,

I am new to DDO as well as these forums, so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. With that said, I have a level 8 Paladin and enjoy being able to solo just about everything on hard and some things on elite but I am wanting to re-roll. I purchased 32 point builds because I didn't want to feel like I had to grind to have fun, and now that half-elf and half-orc are out, I think it'd a pretty good time to make a new character.

Here is what I want: I'd like to be able to disarm all (or most) traps as well as deal good damage from far away. I am thinking about being 1 rogue/19 ranger, but I am unsure where to find a proper build. All the builds I can find assume you have a TR (...true reincarnation?) and all +2 / +3 tomes and know everything about the game. Could anyone link me a newb-friendly rogue/ranger build, please? Thank you in advance!

There are builds on here for an Exploiter build. 18/1/1 Ranger/Rouge/Monk. Or Ranger/Rogue/Fighter if you don't have access to monk.

Search for Exploiter in the forums.

That build looks a little like a melee build, judging from the Tempest points. Is there a sniper variation?

edit: I think I will just start out as rogue and try to figure things out on my own. After all, if I mess up too badly, I can just re-roll and have some more experience to work with. Thank you anyways!

You might consider 2 levels of rogue. It will help you bump up your pertinent skills alittle, but the big benefit is the evasion from Rogue.

Decide if you want to go with two-weapon fighting, or more focused on range. Ranged damage doesn't equal melee damage in the longrun, and a pure-ranged character isn't really all that viable.

I made a Rog12/Ranger6/Ftr2 build. I took Assassin II for the rogue, and Tempest for the ranger. Extra fighter levels gave me much needed feats. He's 11th level at the moment (I have the build planned out to 20), and I'm having a lot of fun with him.
    Cannith:
Brigette; Completionist! || Aoeryn; Wiz20(3rd life).

I feel like I would enjoy playing and learning the game the most if I was playing a ranged build while finding all the secrets of the dungeons I do. Maybe snipers will become a bit better in the future. I can always just make another character with a more common build if I feel it's too weak, right?

No. Rangers get free evasion at level 9.
