I agree with the OP in as much as there should be a way to remove it if it is unwelcome.

I've seen WoW's Mohawk Grenades mentioned once or twice. It was simple enough to just click off the debuff if you didn't care for it.

WoW also does the pumpkin head every year and there are achievements to 'pumpkin head' different race/classes. Believe me it was very annoying to be a female gnome warlock in a major city. If I was feeling mean I wouldn't remove it and force everyone waiting around me to wait 10 minutes for it to wear off instead of clicking off the debuff.

But that was WoW, this is DDO. I expect better of DDO.

    TL;DR version:
I was traumatized by being 'pumpkin headed' in WoW so please don't 'pumpkin head' me bro'.

Personally, I think it's fantastic. My Half Orc got skull-headed last night in the Harbor right by the Marketplace entrance. The ears of the bunny helm I had on were still sticking out of the skull. Finding it funny, I decided to break into Half Orc Dance 1. Before I knew it, there were about 10 other players dancing about there as well, having a good time, and plenty more "lol" tells as well.

Some had skulls, some had pumpkins, some had neither, but everyone was having fun because of a simply little item. That alone makes it worth it, in my opinion.

Pumpkin heads? I like. Too funny!

Skulls? I do not. There are already way too many skulls everywhere in this game.

    /tinfoilhat on
So many skulls... makes me suspect "skull and bones" influence on the game! Oh teh noes it's a conspiracy!

Take a look around you and see what everyone else thinks...lots of people having fun with pumpkin and skull heads out there.

Maybe you should try having fun.

    It's fun.
Angsty? Not at all, but by all means, feel free to continue misrepresenting things if you want.

Judging from the amount of positive rep my post on the subject has garnered and the number of people who agree that there should've been a free opt out, I'm looking around and seeing ample support for my position. Not that it would matter too much if there wasn't - if I see a problem I'm not necessarily prone to fall in line with "what everybody else thinks" if popular opinion is against me.

The funny thing is that nobody who has complained about the lack of a free option to opt out is asking for anybody's fun to be ruined, changed or anything else. They are just saying that they would've appreciated a free opt out so they can maintain the way THEY have fun. It's not like it's a terribly unreasonable request. The chances are that nothing will be done about, but hopefully in the future it's something Turbine will keep in mind.

If you don't think it deserves the attention it's gotten, then why do you keep...giving it attention? In fact the hubbub generated over it has equally stemmed from some people saying "get over it" or "chill out" as it has from the people merely voicing their issue. People dismissing and insulting people who have calmly and eloquently stated their issue actually do more to bring negative attention to the issue and feed into the discussion they wish would go away. Ironic, isn't it?

I am having fun - what, do you think because a person is expressing discontent over something that they don't like/agree with they are just sitting in their chairs at home alternately wringing their hands in angst and raging at the computer screen?

What a convenient fiction you have going for you there.

    Lighten up.

Nobody is knocking you over the pumpkin and taking your stuff.

I like the pumpkin heads. I don't like whining about pumpkin heads. I don't think that whining and having fun are synonymous.

You think that complaining is fun. Your position is not wrong, and I won't call it fiction. You're allowed to have a complain party.

I could calmly and eloquently exclaim that your gala event is fine but the tea is too tart for my panties. I expect that this critique of the host's event would provoke a reaction not unlike, "lighten up and have some fun."

Angst is popular, though. I understand it, I just don't buy in. It's ok to complain about the hotdogs at the superbowl. It just isn't how I have fun.

Because those 50 motes for a "party ****er potion" were such a strain on one's DDO resources?

And yet you have managed to miss the point. It isn't the cost, it is the principal behind requiring people who don't enjoy a game element to waste ANY resources to avoid said game element.

Or they'd pass the sugar so you could sweeten your tea... Give you a way to enjoy it without ruining it for the people that like their tea tart?

Maybe the people asking for a way to opt out of the pumpkination are just asking for a way out without ruining the fun of the people enjoying it?

Unless the fun is the annoyance of others.

Game bugged out and deleted half your stuff?
"Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!"

Your fav character skill got nerfed?
"Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!"

    You got banned for something?
"Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!"

Someone ninja looted that scroll from your party?
"Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!"

Someone pulled loot and sold it in party?
"Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!"

What you consider fun and funny does not mean anyone else has to agree with you...

BUT of course its different when it's something YOU dont like... right?

(if i was a little more motivated i'd find all the complaint threads started and post that... "Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!" But it's a fairly sociopathic statement and i'd end up getting banned... to which the reply would have to be.... "Awww lighten up dude! it's just for fun!" )
Your examples are so horrible it hurts.

You're comparing a pumpkin head to get banned, nerfed etc. A pumpkin head...

Party ****er potions could probably do with being cheaper. They're prohibitively expensive relative to grenades. 1/10th of the price should keep everyone happy.

I shouldn't need to spend my Turbine Points on some Party-****er item in order to prevent this from happening.

So call me a stick in the mud if you wish but I think this whole thing is silly. I don't log on to DDO to have this kind of interaction with others. If I wanted this kind of garbage I'd play WoW and get bombarded by Mowhawk grenades.

    Really?
You get annoyed because of a pumpkin head?
Also - You don't need to spend TP on a potion.

Pumpkin heads, I hate them to the core. Got my first one and returned the favor with komors.
