Default Post Your Class & Build for Half-Elves

I intend to create several half-elf characters in approximately this order.

    1) cleric
    2) bard
    3) wizard (maybe wizard/rogue)
    4) others to come

I am seriously considering a Cleric. Possibly a Wizard later on down the line, first I have to work on remaking my Barb as a Horc

I may TR my bard into one later on. Picking up the fighter racial feat for free martial weapon proficiency seems like the most useful thing to do with a half-elf at the moment.

I created a Wizard (going to be Archmage) and chose the Bard racial feat allowing me to use healing wands and scrolls, plus I can fascinate 3 times per rest.

I'll get back to this post a few updates down the road when Half-Elves are completed, and perhaps worth buying.

Tempted to go 20 FvS with Paladin or Monk dilettante feat.
    - I've been to so many raids, but I wouldn't call myself a vet, since I have yet to try out different strategies, tactics and classes in raids.
    - Main in sig, alts: Frostiee, Aliciae, Amandae

Still perfecting a pure sorc with dragonmarks to try for insane lightning strike damage. Feats are a major pain though on what to drop. Should be an interesting air savant later.

A 12wiz(lich)/6monk(ninja)/2fighter staff build. After epic gear obtained, 50% displacement, 25% incorp, 86 self buffed ac, all saves 34+, 650 hps, and immunities better then a forged. Had to drop intimidate though, was taking to many feats, items, and would have to do a life of barb and fighter. It doesn't really fill a major role in raids/epics other then death aura/firewall/icestorm(later)/thf damage and the ability to off tank anything without assistance. Since my playing time has been cut, I expect it to be complete in 2012

It's still early in the ball game but I'm trying out a sorc with the fvs dilettante. No umd needed for any wand.
Pigtails, "I have to zerg, I don't have enough spellpoints to rebuff"
    Rhavin, "Gather for Grease"
Tempts Fate, "Sneak softly and carry a big freaking stick"

Order of the Asylum Thelanis If you are going to tag along, you better hang on!

I'm a complete newb when it comes to builds and such, but last night I started a Half-Elf wiz/rog and picked up the Fighter dilettante for the martial proficiency. I have no idea if this is a good idea. Just trying to recapture some PnP fighter/magic-user/thief flavor

    10000% agreed here.

I did consider a half-elven arcane zen archer (12clr/6rgr/2mnk), but between the issues with ranged in general and the fact that zen archery doesn't absolve you of needing a 19 base dex for IPS, I shelved that idea.

I agree. Atm even Drow and Elves are far superior than half-elves in any way, and this says all
If people don't rush to buy the crappy placeholder, but ask instead for a real, finished and useful Half-elf, maybe the developers will work in that direction to increase a legit deal...and everyone will be happy.

I intend do do some Half-elf builds. These would be:

a Favored Soul taking the Sovereign Host abilities (so, longswords) and taking the elven longsword enhancements. I will also take the Mark of Storm ( I hate Cloudkill and love Electric Loop) for a little more offense. This character's Dilletante choice will be Wizard, so I can use all the Arcane wands I have on most of my other characters that I never use with them (even with wizards). I will also be able to use Repair wands to heal Warforged. Sure, that means that I can waste resources on everyone in the party, not just the fleshies... but that's me.

a wizard with 2 levels of Ranger (for 2hf and Cure Wands/Barkskin) and the rogue Dilletante ability (extra damage is good).

I might try to leverage the Half-elf Bluff ability with a rogue that is a clerical Dilletante for Cure wands (though a level of ranger and the wizard Dilletante would be ok too).

I can see what people are saying about elves or humans being better in some ways, but the Dilletante ability (especially since it's free) takes away the need to take a splash level in some builds.

You can't take elven longsword enhancements with an half-elf, simply because they don't have ANY weapon enhancement

Go Elf or human -> better deal

Will Wiz diletante mean you can use Repair Mod/Serious/etc. Wands? Or just Repair Light?

Has something changed? How are you getting Bark with only 2 levels of Ranger?

On Lama, my Wizard Archmage with Pal dil was using cure light/moderate/serious wands when I met the level requirements. I didn't try any others, but when buying the cures I saw wands like lesser restore as able to use.

Here's the cleric I'm working on:

    Half-Elf 20 Cleric (32-Point)

    STR: 16
    DEX: 8
    CON: 16 (Drop to 14 for a 28-point build)
    INT: 10
WIS: 16 (Drop CON to 15 and boost WIS to 18 for a 36-point build, take Greater Adaptability CON to even it)
    CHA: 8 (Boost to 10 for a 34-point build)

    All ability raises to WIS

Skills - Level 1, max Concentration, put one full rank (two points) into Tumble and the last into Balance. At subsequent levels, put one point in Concentration and one in Balance.

    Feats:

    Level 1: Toughness
    Level 1 (Half-Elf Racial): Half-Elf Dilettante: Fighter
    Level 3: Extend Spell
    Level 6: Empower Healing
    Level 9: Power Attack
    Level 12: Quicken
    Level 15: Maximize Spell
Level 18: Improved Critical: Slashing Weapons

    Enhancements (At Level 13):

    Cleric Radiant Servant I-II
    Unyielding Sovereignty
    Follower of the Sovereign Host
    Human Adaptability Wisdom I
    Human Improved Recovery I
    Human Versatility I-II
    Racial Toughness I-II
Improved Heal I-II (Radiant Servant pre-req)
    Cleric Prayer of Life I-II
Cleric Prayer of Incredible Life I-II
    Cleric Life Magic I-III
    Cleric Improved Spell Penetration I
    Cleric Wisdom I
Cleric Divine Vitality I (Radiant Servant pre-req)
Cleric Extra Turning I-II (for extra Auras and Bursts)
Cleric Improved Turning I (Radiant Servant pre-req)
Cleric Wand and Scroll Mastery I

Playstyle: The Fighter Dilettante feat is there to allow you access to martial melee weapons without losing spell pen due to a splash. As a bonus, you also get access to the Cleric Capstone. Use two-handed weapons like falchions or greataxes (greatswords only if you have some good ones, or no good falchions/greataxes.)

Levels 1-8, your strength is melee - when a group's looking for a tank, that's you. And you can heal too. Select spells that complement this. If you have a Carnifex in your shared bank, it will serve you well for a long time to come. Around level 8 or so, focus on healing a little more.

Once you get Quickened Bladebarriers, you can solo things with five pikers, and what BB won't kill, you can beat down. You only lose 1 DC on your spells from a max WIS human cleric, it's not a huge deal in the end. Try to get a Superior Potency VI greatsword, greataxe or falchion so you don't have to swap weapons as much until you go to Amrath.

In raids, you're a healer first - DPS only when you aren't needing to throw heals. Same goes for epics. In other late-game quests, cast first - melee when that doesn't work. With access to big two-handers like a LitII Greensteel Falchion, Epic SoS or an Epic Antique Greataxe, once you have to swing, it will hurt.

Since I already have one of every class but Favored Soul, I figure I might use this as my chance to try out FS, and go ahead and buy it, making a Half-Elf Favored Soul.

I'm planning on TRing my Cleric into a HE Bard Warchanter. No particular build plan yet. Thinking of two levels of Rogue, and trying to fit enough points to do traps as well, but we'll see. Ignoring CC/DC based spells, and going for healing and buffs only. Which means I'll probably go pure Bard until level 7 or 8, to get Haste as quickly as possible.

Haven't gotten around to downloading the character builder since getting the new computer, so no organized build sheet yet.
