    Default Destruction + Handwraps

With the recent update 7 and the naming of the dragontouched runes, I spent the Destruction sovieign rune to my dt armor. After monster bashing, I was wondering why the Destruction effect did not proc with my handwraps but it would proc with my vorpal kamas (testing the difference) to assess which attacks received the benefits. This raised a question whether DDO classifies handwraps as a melee weapon, or not. Handwraps in placement e.g. weapon slot and AH location under melee weapons but their not classified as melee weapons for the purposes of Destruction. The reason I'm writing is to suggest that destruction or destruction soveign rune effect work on all melee weapons, including Handwraps.

DDO has 3 major categories of physical attacking that players do:
    • Melee Weapon
    • Projectile
    • Unarmed

Melee Weapons have their properties come from the items themselves. Projectiles use a combination of the weapon and ammo (or in the case of throwing weaponry, just the ammo). Unarmed gains properties through the player via pseudo-buffs that trigger on unarmed strikes. Because they gain their effects from various sources in different ways this leads to some effects working on some of these attack methods and not others when bestowed from non-standard sources, such as armor or a buff-like effect.

For whatever reason, Destruction granted from non-weapon source only works on Melee Weapons currently. It was never altered to be compliant with ranged/unarmed attacks.

No they do not fully classify hadnwraps as weapons. This is also seen by the Two-Weapon Defence feat not applying to handwraps.

Thanks for clarifying that up for me. I would still like to see destruction open up with Unarmed for Handwraps, help shore up some to-hit within the Monk class due to the multiple attributes required to have effective DC on special moves, to-hit (Strength or Dexterity), and suitable HPs to have enough HPs for Raids (as Melee class). Also, since our DPS is dependent on hitting rapidly - Like a DoT damage ticker.

You have no idea how much I agree with you. So disappointing that the DT sov runes don't work with unarmed.
