Working as intended?

Mabar - Ransacked.
Sure was nice of Turbine to give us our guild its own avatar.
Yeah, they haven't really offered any free way to go back and 'fix' characters outside of the normal means. So you have to swap Feats, respec Enhancements, or Lesser Reincarnate to redo skills (and pick up Intimidate in this case).
Buy a heart of the wood and reincarnate.
It is an obvious Turbine strategy: get its users to spend as much as possible.

No it wouldn't. Just because there's a change doesn't mean that Turbine needs to give a player a free XXX to utilize that change. People have been asking for this for a long time and we should be happy that the change has been made and that we have methods to change our old characters to be able to take advantage of it.

Yay!!! My Paladin can finally get full ranks in Intimidate.
Boo!! I have to purchase (or find) a Heart of Wood to get full ranks in Intimidate.
Really should have been a free respec available to all Paladins.
That would have been the right thing to do, in my opinion.
If you don't think so, that's fine, but that's your opinion.
If your paladin is involved in certain types of permadeath and other special rules systems, then buying a lesser heart of wood would violate the terms of your special rules group.
Reroll, noob.
If you are f2p and want to stay that way, you may end up having to get one of the new hearts of wood that drop as loot... on the AH assuming they don't bind, but otherwise you have to get -reeeealy- lucky.
That or grind out favor. More favor.
No, they don't need to, but anytime they make changes that affect how a character can play and perform, they should. It's standard practice in a lot of their competitors. Just because they hand it out, doesn't mean everyone will use it, they could set an expiration date on it perhaps. Or they need another way to reset skills.
Personally, my pally doesn't have imtimidate, has no plan to have intimidate so I wouldn't use one if I had one.

With hearts of wood dropping in regular loot chests, everybody wins!
In case you didn't already notice, my posts that end with must NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.

Actually, the standard practice is to allow an in-game exclusive or in-game AND a monetary way to reset your stats. Only allowing you to reset if you pay $10 every single time is way too much. This is for every single character, on every single time you want to change something because of the nerfs and buffs that come and go.
It is quite an unscrupulous practice.
PS: Oh, and relying on pure luck for a respec heart? Don't make me laugh.
I never said they NEEDED to. I said it would have been the decent thing to do.
I am happy the change has been made, but I'm also not happy that in order to take advantage of it one either needs to buy hearts of wood from the store or wait until one is fortunate to get one to drop.
When they introduced Dragonmarks they gave every character a one-time free feat swap so they could take advantage of these, yet more often it's used to swap out feats that have nothing to do with Dragonmarks.
Why couldn't they do that with Paladins and Intimidate?
Some things that their competitors do Turbine would be smart to emulate. In AoC whenever they changed the feat trees up significantly, they gave the affected classes a free feat respec as well as reset the respec cost. Clearly Turbine CAN do something similar if they so choose (see Dragonmark example) but the fact they chose not to is understandably a bit off-putting.
This doesn't really affect me overly much; I no longer have a high level Paladin, mine's only 6 so rerolling isn't so terrible (except I won't since a friend gave me +1 WIS tome), but given that there are a lot of capped Paladins who have been clamoring for this for a while, the fact that they have to buy/loot hearts of wood I'm sure feels like a slap in the face. It would to me if I still had my level 19 Paladin.
