not sure if this has been suggested before (and my search skillzor are not that 1337 sry angry vet peoples) but what about some extra buttons on the lfm to indicate what type of players the group is going to be composed of in terms of experience level?
so you know when you go to post your party and you post the quest and you can choose the normal/hard/elite so that people can mouse over and see what is proposed when looking at lfms?
well maybe extra buttons under those like:
new
experienced
vet
this would be more information about the *leader* rather than the group. although it does also suggest something about the type of group they are trying to make. and of course it defaults to "new" if nothing is slected :P
i think i would prefer more graduations but there's not enough real estate here
starter
newer
experienced
learned
vet
(or some such guff).
thinking through various ways that this could be abused or helpful this maybe a useless idea in practice. but in forcing to bin yourself into one of those categories you may assist others in trying to work out if it's a smell the flowers group or a zerg zerg group...
it just seems to me that buttons are more neutral and less emotionally loaded than some of the terms that get put in lfms. and it *would* default to new/starter
maybe completely useless in practice. thoughts?

I like the idea actually.
Putting a LFG up and letting everyone know if your a new or vet player could be very useful.

I think you can pretty much cover that in the free text entry bit and level requirement bit withouth complicating it with extra buttons and menu's.
I also think people manage quite well as it is if i'm honest.
Theres something about that idea i'm not comfortable with but i'm afraid i just can't put my finger on it. Hmmm...

Define new. Define experienced. Define vet.
I ran a tear of Dhakaan with a TR´ed character in the group (cleric). Coming from the European servers (=no shop) seeing a TR´ed character was in fact an indication that the player behind was somewhat experienced. That mentioned cleric, charging at the mobs swinging a greataxe, was the first to die.
Even if everybody has the same definition for the words you suggested, the other problem that remains has already being mentioned: people tend to not always tell the truth (for whatever reason)....

yeah there's something to it that seems a little odd... i'm tryign to think how it would be used in practice... i'm sure someone would hit on the issues

it takes out some of the potentially for nasty terms... or terms that are simply just not understood... although of course a new player would not know to check here ... lol...

Well, it would be much more effective if Turbine just opened a new Vet server, had every account with a long enough time (and a set of required items too, we dont want anyone who is lvl 20 since 2007 but doesnt have the required items to be a vet in the said server), slap a catchy name to it and voila, problem solved. This way the people who cause problems not because they are reading the forums and trying to learn, but the ones that cause problems like that in groups because they are clueless people, and not only clueless gamers, will only have new players to bother, leaving the veteran population to argue and complain just about themselves.

Most of the time anybody who would check the vet box would be a bloody noob (not newby). I don't like this kind of sorting. If people only want to play with vets get a guild.
But the idea is not bad in general. I would make different choices though:
-impatient Zerger
-flower sniffer
-First time in quest
-farming
-Elitist
-Normal PUG
