Default Half-Orc Rogue: A New Breed of Assassin

    Half-Orc Rogue: Assassin III
    20 Rogue
    Half-Orc: Neutral Good

Note: My rogue builds seem to be the most popular. With the introduction of the ridiculously unbalancing, stupid overpowered, and the #1 seller of True Reincarnations (yes, I’m talking about Horc$), I figured it was time to release a new version. Note: I have not played this build past level 4.

I addition: You can check out my other rogue builds: and more builds in my signature.
    BASE STATS 32pt:
    20 Strength
    15 Dexterity
    14 Constitution
    8 Intelligence
    8 Wisdom
    6 Charisma
(All 5 Ranks go into Strength)

    FEATS:

    1 Rogue (feat)Two Weapon Fighting
    3 Rogue (feat)Exotic: Khopesh
    6 Rogue (feat)Toughness
9 Rogue (feat)Improved Two Weapon Fighting
    10 Rogue (rogue)Opportunist
    12 Rogue (feat)Improved Critical: Slashing
    13 Rogue (rogue) Improved Evasion
15 Rogue (feat)Greater Two Weapon Fighting
    16 Rogue (rogue)Crippling Strike
    18 Rogue (feat)Power attack
    19 Rogue (rogue)Skill Mastery

    HP BREAKDOWN

    Rogue (6 per level) 120
    Con: 100
    Heroic Durability: 20
    Draconic Vitality: 10
    Minos Legens: 20
    GS/ MIN II Item: 45
    GFL: 30
    Toughness 22
    Racial Toughness II 20
    Total: 387
    +Madstone/Rage

    SKILLS

Skills are simple. Even though Horc$ take a penalty to INT, rogues have plenty of skills. Every level, max as many of these skills are you can starting and number 1, and moving down the list.
    In order of importance:
    1. UMD
    2. Search
    3. Disable Device
    4. Open Lock
    5. Move Silently
    6. Hide
    7. Diplomacy
    8. Haggle
    9. Spot
    10. Balance
    11. Tumble

    ENHANCEMENTS LEVEL 20:

    SNEAK ATTACK
This is the shining point of any rouge build
In the right situation, Sneak Attack is crazy damage.
    Example at Level 20:

10d6 : Every odd level a rogue gets +1d6 SA
3d6 : Assassin I, II, III add 1d6 per tier
    4d6: Capstone Deadly Shadows
+12: At levels 1,4,7,10 Rogues get +3 sneak attack from Sneak Attack Training AP
    +8 Tharne’s Goggles
    TOTAL: 17d6 + 20

    LEVELING INSTRUCTIONS
In order to grab Improved Two Weapon Fighting at level 9, you need 17 DEX. Do this be eating a +2 DEX tome at level 8 or earlier.

During low levels, use whatever you can get your hands on. Shortwords and daggers are going to be the easiest to get weapons that you are proficient with. Get a heavy fortification item as early as possible. Use heroism pots, rage, flanking bonuses, and sneak attack to-hit to make up for your low to-hit

    Weapon Choices.
    I recommend Khopesh
You could go Rapier. Rapier has it's benefits, but Khopesh is where the damage is.

    QUESTION & ANSWER
    Q. Why did you go Neutral Good?
    A.
Good allows you to use Pure Good weapons for leveling up, and at higher levels you will be able to UMD any alignment restricted weapon.

    Q. Why 15 DEX?
    A.
You need 17 DEX for Improved Two Weapon fighting, you just have to eat a +2 DEX tome.

    Q. 28 Point Build?
    A.
    Drop STR.

    Q. Why is this build Half-Orc?
    A.Because they are stupid overpowered.

    Q. But..but... Halfling is better.?
    A.
    Take your pick:

    Halflings:
    • Rogue Sneak Attack + Guile:
    • +8 sneak attack damage /+5 to-hit: Cost: 20 AP
    • Doesn’t work on undead, constructs.
    • Doesn’t work well against fortification.
    • -2 STR from racial penalty.
    • +2 reflex/will save

    Half-Orcs:
    • +2 Base Strength
    • Orc Strength II 6 AP
    • Orc Power Attack III 6 AP
    • Orc Extra Action Boost III 6 AP
    • Total: +5 to damage (12 AP. Also: +15 to damage on crits) and 3 extra action boosts.
    • CON: lower to-hit then halfling

Q.Do you have any other rogue builds??
    A.Check out:

Enjoy! And as always: if you have any questions, concerns, comments, unsure what to do, or otherwise confused, feel free to post in this thread or send me a PM

This has been yet another build by Krythan! If you give me credit, call me Krythan. Like my builds: read more in my signature!

You've missed 20 HP from Con. Unless you plan to use a +4 Con item. You should really squeeze in a +2 Exceptional Con for an extra +20 HP as well.

You shouldn't dismiss rapier on a Str rogue so quickly. The DPS is very close to khopesh for a rogue, and it blinds, banishes and smites quicker. While there's nothing better to use that feat for on a non-TR rogue, if you plan to TR you'll do better boss-DPS by taking the Rogue past life-feat instead of khopesh. And if you have already crafted khopesh you won't have room for both the past life feat and khopesh.

    Take your pick:
Halflings also have better saves, which is relevant. +2 Reflex and Will over a HO without spending any APs. And +1 to-hit.

    Thanks Razcar. Good insight!

Lol, what do you base this on?
I'll get about 5 pm's a week asking questions about the rogue builds I've posted. That and they are the most viewed (looking at how many times they have been viewed under "posts created by me"

Opportunist can only be taken once.
Darn. Wasn't that originally intended to stack?

You've missed 20 HP from Con. Unless you plan to use a +4 Con item. You should really squeeze in a +2 Exceptional Con for an extra +20 HP as well.
    Thank you! updated

That's where any rogue builds shine. that and assassin III. I'll re-phrase that so it doesn't sound so specific to this build. thanks.

Rogues are not proficient in kukris, longswords or scimitars.
    lol. copy and paste. thanks

True in some respects. Good point about past life feats. I guess that's a decision that up to the player.

Halflings also have better saves, which is relevant. +2 Reflex and Will over a HO without spending any APs. And +1 to-hit.
Of lesser significance, but thanks for adding that in, it is something I forgot to mention.

Thanks for taking the time to comment!. I've corrected a few segments of my original post.

    EDIT: lol, neg rep.

Orc Extra Action Boost III 6 AP

    That's 2/4/6 AP not 6 total.

    You need sneak attack accuracy.

Opportunist is supposed to stack. Read here: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=274842

What would you think about a 19/1 Rogue/barbarian build?

It's only selectable once and with 1 Barb you would lose 4d6 damage from the capstone.

The opportunist feat was changed to a 1x when they added the Fort reduction of 10%

    Ooops. ty.
I meant to have that as:
Orc Extra Action Boost II 6 AP
the 3rd tier is too expensive.

I also still need to add the pre-req's for Assassin

i find being neutral good just for the time you have low umd kinda weaker point than avoiding aligment based damage later on.

yes its a tiny annoyance at some quests, like ghost skellies delera, but you can always find flametouched iron weapon, cant really think of any other place at low levels where it will be an issue.

I was thinking about rolling this build, but I have a few questions.

    1. Do Half Orcs make terrible trap monkeys? Granted this is an Assassin build, but I will still be expected to trap. Will my skills be to low with starting 8 Int? (I have +2 tomes).

    2. With the CHA so low would UMD still be worth taking?

    3. Why no over sized TWF?

    Thanks!

My experiences for the general questions:
    1. Horc's have -1 to the Int-based skills. Does that make them terrible at traps? Absolutely not, -1 is easy to compensate. Does it make them the best in game at disarming traps? No. Do you need to be the "best at traps" somewhere in game? No. And if you wanted that you would build a Mechanic in the first place. You will need some decent trap boost gear though, and buffs or you might blow some traps at higher diffs in lower levels.

With 8 Int you will get 7 skill points per level. For trap-smithing you need DD, Search and maybe Spot (I like spot for random traps and hidden mobs). OL you can do half ranks and be fine. That leaves 4 skill points per level for UMD and things like Jump, Hide, Move Silently. To add to that, after level 7 you will get one more skill point after you munch your tome.

    2. UMD is always worth taking. You will just need to reach some set values anyway:

UMD + roll needed (from memory):

    UMD DC: 24
    CMW wand
    Invisibility scroll

    UMD DC: 28
    CSW wand
    Prayer scroll
    Displacement scroll
    Aid, Mass scroll

    UMD DC: 32
    Fire Shield scroll
    Stoneskin wand
    Restoration scroll

    UMD DC: 36
    Raise Dead scroll
    Recitation scroll
    Protection from Elements scroll

    UMD DC: 40
    Tenser's Transformation scroll
    Greater Heroism scroll
    Reconstruct scroll
    Shadow Walk scroll
    Teleport scroll
    Heal scroll
    Heroes Feast scroll
True Seeing scroll (if no Tharnes)
Resistance 30 wand (might be 42?)
Blur level 10 wand (might be 42?)
Shield level 10 wand (might be 42?)

    UMD DC: 44
    Invisibility, Mass scroll
    Waves of Exhaustion scroll
    Resurrection scroll
    Greater Restoration scroll
    Greater Teleport scroll

    How to reach the DC:s:

    Full ranks: 23
    Cha 6: -2
    Charisma +6 item: +3
    GH: +4
    Skill Boost I: +2
    Bunny hat or Cartouche: +3
    Roll 2 or higher: +2-20

    =33, when rolling: 35 - 53
Easy to get. will make you miss a Heal scroll about 1 in 5 though, so you might want to boost it more:

    Addtional sources:
    +2 Cha Tome: +1
    Guild ship skill buff: +1
Skill Boost II: +1 (over Boost I)
Luck bonus +2 (Head of GF or other source): +2
Shroud CHA skills item (without spending larges, otherwise +6): +3
    = 41 + 2-20 = 43-61 That's about all you need.

There are of course many other ways to boost your UMD, such as more raid loot, but with a skill of over 44 it gets mostly pointless. My list shows it's very easy to hit Raise dead levels, easy to hit Heal levels, and might need a quick item swap to hit the highest DC scrolls - even for half-orcs.

Don't forget to count the -3 to hit penalty for Orc Improved Power Attack. To hit is overall more important than + damage since even one missed attack will lower your dps enough cancel out many extra pluses to damage.

Also the extra sneak attack damage on Halfling will add up and help counter the HO bonus from str/PA.

Indeed. One could be Chaotic Neutral and find weapons such as the following:

Elementia : Aleksia : Ninetysix : Dumi - Utopia of Khyber

Hmmm. A level 20 rogue with no elite trap skills, and weak UMD. How do you explain this to the group that just invited you because they needed a rogue?

i can already imagine lfm. "need a rogue, but no HO". or the ultimate irony "need DPS, only HO rogues may apply". the former and the later are equally apsurd (if played well, of course).
