Odin Brewing out of Seattle... Bacon Flavored beer.. nuff said... ;p

Also, as one poster stated.. try several at various temps and with various foods. It's kinda like wine in that way. Makes for different flavors or undertones to come out.

Good beer can be had anywhere now days.. Living in the Pacific Northwest I can't swing a dead cat and not hit a micro-brewery or a wine tasting joint anymore... Most of the best stuff will come from breweries you've never heard of. Honestly tho, I reach for a Steveweiser more often than not as it's affordable and is consistent. Sam Adams is pretty good too, though it seems to average about a buck and a half more than a sixer of bud talls.

Beer is a pretty subjective thing and there are as many opinions on what's the best as there is beer. Moral of the story is try as many as you can and drink what you like.. there are soooooo many that you will find one you like for a "goto" beer and probably several you'll like for special occasions/impressing friends... ;p

and now I want a beer... nice work... lol gonna have to stop on the way home **** it!

To the OP, if it's available where you live and you want a taste of a great beer that's come to define the American microbrew movement, try Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale. (I would actually recommend a crapload of other beers as well, but I think this one is a great place to start).

I'm a professional brewer at a local brewpub, I love beer and the whole craft beer scene. I brew the beer I drink :-)
    (and occasionally buy it too)

I started home brewing this past year. Lot of fun and not as hard as I expected. SNPA is a great beer and a lot closer to what i'd consider a starter beer.

One of the bars I happened to go to this past weekend carried bottles of Rogue Dead Guy. I honestly don't remember much other than it had a unique taste to it. =P

I'm enjoying the Rogue American Amber though. Props to lord of rage for pointing me in their direction.

My favorite beer is Dundee's Honey Brown. It's a lager brewed with honey.

I don't consider myself a connoisseur, but I find it darned tasty. The honey gives it a really smooth finish, and makes it a good "drinking" beer, but it also goes nicely with my dinner most of the time too.

I like Sam Adams, especially their seasonal varieties, but for the most part I only consider them to be "dinner" beer and don't like to drink them just for the sake of drinking.

When I play poker, I like to have a nice tall glass of Amberbock at my side. That's another one that, for me, goes well with food or without.

Contrary to what you seem to believe, it's possible to enjoy alcoholic beverages without abusing them. Alcohol and drug addictions can be a terrible thing, but don't confuse alcohol use with alcohol abuse.

You'll find that the people who are passionate about beer, including most/all of the posters in this thread, would be the type of people who have no trouble being responsible with their alcohol use. From a common sense perspective, you don't spend two to five times as much money on beer if all you want to do is get stoned. The people who are willing to purchase quality beer are the people who are more likely to enjoy a bottle or two with dinner or to relax after work and leave it at that.

Every alcoholic is someone who drinks. Not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic.

I recommend finding an import/export shop- usually a wine specialty store or "cheese shop".

I like my beer to have lots of flavor- not the Alka Seltzer tablet in a can of urine flavored beer from the US or Australia.

    I recommend the following:

Hefeweizen- Paulaner (My favorite general purpose beer)
Kristalweizen- Erdinger, Tucher, or Weihenstephaner (What American beer wants to be)
Dunkel- Paulaner (Dark, generally bitter beer)
Schwartzbier- Kostritzer (Even darker, always bitter beer)
Smoke Bier- Bamberg Smoke Bier (Awesome stuff- tastes like a ham sammich during the post-swallow exhale)
    Have a nice day!

Try a few of the American craft brews before you make disparaging remarks about all US beer. The mainstream beers are terrible, but the craft brew market here is starting to blossom and there are some fantastic beers that are available if you look for them.

In fact, if you look at some beer rating websites like beeradvocate.com, you'll find that a number of American craft brews rank among the world's best.

There's nothing "Alka Seltzer tablet in a can" about a Founder's Red's Rye or a Bell's Double Cream Stout, a Stone IPA or a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Ah the old American beer is **** post. Now the breweries you have mentioned are rather solid. And I do drink them every now and then, But they havent pushed the boundries or really created something new in a long time.

Weihenstephaner wants to be Rogue brewing from Oregon. Rogue's Dead Guy ale is one of the best Maibock style beers I have ever drank. Their double Dead guy is insane and might be too big for most German beer drinkers. Its deep and heavy. Their Deadguy ale aged in thier Deadguy wiskey barrels is something that has to be tasted to be believed. Its amazing stuff. This just cracks the surface of this brewery. They grow their own hops, barley, malts, and cultivate their own yeast strains. The thing is this kind of creativity is becoming common among American Craft brewers.

I find I enjoy the American versions of the weizenbocks, dopple wiezenbocks, dopple bocks, and dunkel dopplewiezen bocks, to their German counterparts. Germany and Bavaria might have invented the syles but the US brewers have been perfecting it. I prefer most American belgians over their counterparts aswell. Remember the US has over well over 2000 breweries. Out of those Im guessing you have tried 10 at most.

Before you condem US beer I recomend checking out Rogue, Stone, Victory, Bells, Clipper City, Great Divide, Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, Founders, Alagash, Troegs, Stoudts, Southern Tier( Their Crembrule stout has to be tasted to be believed), and Brooklyn. Thats just a few mind you. Those who condem US beer have yet to truly experience what the US craft brewers have been quietly doing the past 20 years.
Toons are in a constant state of flux. Khyber server.
