    Cool An Idea

This is my Idea :My friends and I were sitting around discussing the ftp vs ptp thing and as a result I came to conclusion that:. if the DDO store would hold a
ONCE A WEEK Raffle where the Toon would : spend 5 ddo pts and get a chance to win 500 ddo pts : this would accomplish two things. First and foremost would allow ftp players a chance for some goodies and also make DDO butpot full of cash. Just a thought! Shadow7spike AKA {tonight Sootshadow on Lamannia)...

Problem with that is the mass majority of people using it would be using points they got for free in the first place, so it wouldn't actually make them them a ton of money.

I'm no lawyer but I think since it is TP and not 'real money' it probably wouldn't cause a problems. Lot's of charities and such use the idea of buying 'tickets' that can be turned in for things like beer and such to get around liquor licensing requirements. Because they aren't actually selling alchohol when it is just an item that tickets can be redeemed for.

Ya, I'm pretty sure raffles aren't considered gambling, legally speaking.

Definitely walking a thin line. I doubt it would be worth even a small amount of anti-gambling user backlash even if it were legal.

Charities are generally handled a bit differently than a for-profit private company, though. Raffles are considered okay if you are a registered charity and the proceeds are going towards a charity goal...

It may skirt under the radar since TP can not be converted back to real money, but its iffy. Look up the BankShot game, for an example of where it can go wrong.

Raffle and gambling laws are, however, enacted at a State level. So if they did manage to do something like this, some states wouldn't be eligible. And from what I've seen of contests in the past with state restrictions, customers usually aren't too happy about that D:

I wasn't actually referring to charity raffles, but rather to events. I suppose I shouldn't mention charities in specific, as there are municipal and other small events that also do this and are not 'put on' by a not-for-profit or charity. The idea, as I understand it, is that people are purchasing the tickets, which can then be redeemed for food or beverages and as such no liquor license is necessary.

Such regulations can get pretty silly, for ex: http://www.dailyiowan.com/2010/02/09/Metro/15489.html

I am not sure if it is still the case that event runners can avoid liquor licenses in this way. I haven't seen any events run that way in a while here, but I haven't been to many events recently either.
