In order to get sneak attacks with a ranged weapon, you need to be 30' away or less. That's approximately the distance of the AoE of a Haste spell. Any further and no SA applies.
If you have to be that close, you should be in there getting twice as many sneak attacks with TWF'ing.
And then there's the whole "ranged attacks are too slow" thing, which makes it even worse.
But then again, this is just my opinion. And to put it plainly, my opinion is that ranged rogues are a waste of a perfectly good killer.
.
Using a bow for sneak attacks is like pulling the Lord Licorice card in Candyland when you're already past his spot. At first, you're happy. But then you realize you're actually moving backwards.
Bows are slow. You need to be really close to use them. You only get one attack. All those mean you are doing WAY WAY WAY less damage than you would if you just put on your big-girl panties and meleed.
now on a side note if you are keeping your distance and using the FW killing method
start the pew pew pew on the ones that are very very near dead.
Otherwise you are not sponge worthy
Removing because the joke is over.

I think you need to get your kids a new game, Draccus...
WirelessJoe, I like the first of your /flex screenies, but the second is kind of a yawnfest. Personally, I'm even more adamant about the killcount thing on my rogue than Draccus--you shouldn't just be leading...you shouldn't just double the number of kills of the next highest person...you should get more kills than the entire rest of the party combined!

Hi,
Hobits get a benlaty on Strength and ehnce damage. So I don't like them for rogues, since this penalty gets amplified in sneak attacks (I beleive)
what do you think of Elf Rogues?
Halflings are the only race you ever need to consider for kill-stealing. This is because
1. they are smaller and harder for players to notice you stealing their kills
2. their penalties only matter when you don't get your sneak attack (which should be, like, NEVER for a good kill stealer, since you should ONLY ever be attacking low HP, crittable mobs who don't have aggro on you)
3. they can get enhancements with huge bonuses to sneak attack for the purposes of kill stealing.
btw, Ron, this is supposed to be a joke thread, not an advice thread.
oh, I was joking... ;o)
thanks for the input
I know this is an old thread, but it's still a fantastic post.
I'm raising it from the dead because I know that there are many new players who haven't read it and I hope to get it back on some peoples' radar.
hilarious....i laughed so hard i got hiccups excellent necro
We're not here on a quest to rescue a man named Arlos, we're here to punish some Kobolds.
This is proof that it's okay to Necro with discretion. Somethings are worth bringing back. Course, then someone will yell at the wrong person for necro'ing it in the first place, just adding to the giggles.
