Default Whats with all the guild invites?

Lately As I run through Stormreach I get these guild invites popping up. Now I personally don't have a problem with guild recruitment but just throwing out and invite without even running or getting to know me just doesn't seem right. Maybe that's because I'm part of a gaming clan with over 800 members across 14 different games and we don't just throw out invites to everyone that we see. Are these new guilds that are trying to get the airships? Or are they actually sincere in their invites? I just remember when the airships came out all the guilds that recruited to get the airship and then kicked alot of the newer people out. Guess I really didn't have much to say other than to vent my frustration with all the guild invites I've gotten lately.

Theres an option in either gameplay setting or UI setting to auto decline guild invites. If they get to be really annoying you can ask them to stop and then report them for harassment if they continue.

It used to be that most good guilds had some form of process to get to know a player before inviting into their guild. Which makes sense to me, why in the world would I want to join a guild that I know nothing about, and why would any decent guild want a player that they know nothing about?

With guild reknown there have been a lot of guilds that blindly recruit just to get their numbers up. Using a philosophy of quanitity over quality to get their guild rating as high as possible.

I understand the thought behind doing it that way, but basically with hundreds and hundreds of members who don't know each other, who don't have a common playstyle, and is a mixed bag of good players bad players, nice people and jerks. You might as well be PuGing with the benifit of airship buffs.

I wouldn't join a guild via blind invite, but there are some people who think it's the best way to do it.

They're most likely just trying to get more people to pull renown for them. Fortunately, a solution for that is on the way.

Once Update 7 goes live, just join the guild whenever you get a blind invite and then leave. They'll have your account counted on their modified account size for the next two weeks, which means:

    1) If they have less than 50 accounts, then it'll decrease their small/medium guild renown bonus for the next two weeks.
    2) If they're level 26 or above, then they'll take more renown decay for the next two weeks.

So after Update 7, join away

    Well could be three things:

    1. People sending blind invites to recruit for their guild. You see this lots in other games, interesting that its popped its head up here.

    or

    2. You're exploits in the game have become legendary!

    or

    3. You're simply too sexy for your shirt.

Its gotta be the first one. I don't think my exploits can be legendary after only a year of playing (I don't have a character over lvl 8 yet) and if you saw a picture of me you be telling me not to take my coat off.

I actually joined (and am still in) one of those guilds with an alt of mine. occasionally I want to log in and solo for an hour or so; with 2 kids, unless I play late at night, I'm very prone to interruptions. so I made a FvS that can solo well and joined a mass-invite guild. now when I want to, I can log in for a bit and solo, not care about interruptions, not make my guildies think I'm ignoring them, and get all the airship buffs/advantages that I want.

    Default Have fun with it...

I was on my lowbie bard the other night in Korthos and got 3 random guild invites in less than 40 minutes. I declined the first one right off the bat. The second 2 I accepted then proceeded to demand the 5k pp the person who invited me promised me if I joined. Kept demanding in guild chat for it until other members were crying out, " Why did't I get offered any plat to join?!"..."You better be paying me too!"
One meber even demanded 15 k pp be paid to him...one for each character. I enjouyed myself

I kinda see this blind guild inviting as harrasment in a way and if a person decides thats the best way to go about getting a ship then they need to be prepared to reap the wirlwind for annoying people.

It's actually hard to get people to join a guild if it's an unknown one. I'm in the guild "Canada is Awesome" on Thelanis.
There are less than 25 people in it at any one time and after a week offline people get booted. The only people who will join us are between levels 1-3. But the guild leader and the only officer are level 19.
Of the players that have joined, only a few of them have stayed more than 2 weeks. But those players are very good.
We've got one player who played the game since beta, and about 4 others that log on regularly.
Sending blind invites to people is faster and easier than sending them a tell or questing with them first, not to mention funny as hell when people are complaining about it in the market, but it doesn't get the same results as asking them first.

Chances are if they're sending out blind invites, it's not a guild you want to be a part of.

Though I did create a guild and spammed out invites a while back to mess with Pyce. Named it "Pyce's Fan Club" and got it up to about 100 members. He had the funniest WT F???? moment the first time he saw one of those guys walking around.

I would disagree with this, but I do see your reasoning for saying it. You are taking a risk when joining a blind invite to a guild.

On the flip side though, it is so remarkably (Impossibly?) hard to recruit people in an 'honest' fashion. I'm forming a guild known as The Venerated. It's currently level 14 with just 8 players right now, and finding new people to join is like pulling teeth.

Mid to high level characters just want to join a guild that automatically jumps into raids and does the fun stuff. Low level characters just want to jump into a guild with an airship already, and don't much care about 'guild rules' and the like. Therefore, trying to take the time to get to know the person, and have them fill out a form, and what not - though the ideal way of doing things - is very slow, and often not productive in the long run.

I don't mass invite in my guild, nor do I put up LFM recruits and what not..but considering how hard it is to find recruits...I'm often tempted.

I have a great name for a Guild oriented toward those who advertise it in General Chat:

Not familiar with the rack. We don't have a guild for DDO but when it first came out we tried to get people interested in it but couldn't get enough within our clan guidelines to start a division, and then when it went to F2P we tried again but still no go. I know there are a few others that play but I don't know what servers or what characters.
