This is the prob .. anyone who is playing this game longer or smarter will just kill an ogre/troll without loosing anything thru agroo management or trip+vertigo or anything similar which will dodge that tripple hit.
Standing inside their triple hit is just noobish especially with the whole party.
So after the 3 min and you were all near zero hp, and none of you drank a pot or pulled out a wand?
Sorry but the "healers" job is to make sure you don't kick over in combat , out of combat its on you to heal yourself.
have you considered that perhaps this said cleric was trying to teach you a lesson based on you snobby lfm?
Or maybe that the cleric saw that you all were near zero hp after 3 min in that it was a lost cause to even bother trying to heal you?
============
a clerics job is not to be your nanny. you survived the first fight without dying hooray! now drink some pots or use a wand to get yourself ready for the next.
Move along , Nothing to see here
What gets me about posts like this one, is that the originator forgot to mention that the other five party members ran off in five different directions and then had the gall to complain that the cleric wasn't healing all of them.
This has happened to my "battle-worn healer" so many times that I have given up count. Since then, I follow the group leader and only the group leader. If you want your heals, then make sure you follow me.
Conversely, a really good healer can keep a group alive regardless of their ineptitude and idiocy. I have seen that side of the coin too where healers have kept my other characters alive despite their suicidal tendencies.
Nearly dead after 3 minutes? And that was because "everyone lost like 40 hp"?
I'm afraid I see more than one problem here.
1) Yes, if the cleric still joined when you said you wanted a "pure healer", he should've healed.
I wouldn't have joined that LFM, but that's beside the point: If you join one that clearly states that, you really ought to live up to it. His LFM, his group.
2) It seems like you had low hp, ac and maybe not enough tactical skills (tactical, as in player - not tactical feats). You ran low on hp awfully fast, IMO.
3) Elite? If you were nearly dead after 3 min, maybe that group just wasn't set for elite.
Yes, I know you did it before on elite. But all PUGs were not created equal. Getting a feeling for what the group can handle is one of the marks of a good leader.
Moral of the story:
Having a cleric in the party does not mean you are no longer responsible for keeping yourself alive.
You are responsible for your own DDO experience.
I rolled a cleric, but I don't like meele part of game, so wanted to be heal/casting cleric, but at my lv (7) I still don't have any good spells, so at quests with undead I got RS burst dealing undead mobs a lot of damage, but at no udead quest I have to swing +3 long sword of pure good for 1d8+7+1d6 (9-21) damage, which is extremally low, so I'm almost reduced to healing only, but somehow, I don't feel like wasted slot in party.
If team is really bad, no matter who you take at 6th slot, battle cleric or healbot, you're going to wipe anyway. If party is good, healbot can keep everyone alive easily, and battle cleric can help kill mobs before they will manage to deal a lot of damage, so not many healing is required.
SIlly person, its ALWAYS the cleric's fault at low levels, didn't you know that? Its never the raging Barbarian's fault that he runs off, aggros all the Minos and Trolls back and can't handle it.
The cleric must be lame cause he can't heal a party of lvl 8s on a lvl 10 elite quest with CR 12+ mobs.
*the above denotes pure, unadulterated sarcasm. If your meter did not peg you need to get that checked out*
Look, Vrobel, I'm sure your character doesn't suck that hard, but you should listen to what these people try to tell you. If you've played world of warcraft, this game is nothing like it. Clerics here don't just heal, they can heal and melee pretty well at lowlevels, combined with a few offensive casts that sometimes make healing not even needed at all. What you should do, if oponents provide that much trouble, is perhaps start looking into a way to take care of your own healing.
The cleric (if he's worth anything) will be there to cover for you, when it gets really rough, but you'd be surprised at how much you can handle yourself, once you quaff a heroism potion, a rage potion, a haste potion, etc etc...You could perhaps look into ways to avoid the triplehit combo those trolls do, if you feel you're taking too much damage. Try running in, swinging, running out, back in, and so on. Find ways of fighting that work for you. If you see a group of five bullies on a marketplace somewhere and you wanted to teach them a lesson somehow, would you go 'yaaaaaaaar', and storm in the middle of the lot of them? I doubt it. You'd prepare. This is no different, really.
What you have as philosophy, is that a cleric's manabar should be sufficient to provide healing in between shrines. Let me clear something up for you. If your whole group is near death after a group of five(ish) trolls, that's neeeever going to happen. Try making a cleric, group with a couple of new players that ask for a healer in level 10 quests and below, see what happens. That one cleric that carried your asses before, likely used wands and potions, to keep you all up. Why should he use money, while you save yours for weapons you can buy from the AH later. Give a little, take a little.
Did you know you can buy heals in the form of a potion? It's sounds like cheating don't ya think?
My mom told me to become a warforged sorcerer. But did I listen? Noooooooooooooo
Sounds like the OP needs a 'babysitter' CLR.
Did you know that when you get tripped, you can hit shift (to block), to reduce the damage you take?
Neat huh!
Don't forget, in a quest like SC, a cleric can be SO much more useful than a healbot. Drop a few Commands here and there and healing is not even necessary.
You can also help yourself by getting some barkskin pots from your vendor. Add a plus to your AC and maybe some of those hits don't land now?
Always buy and carry pots on you, copious amounts in general. Get your House P favor and get all those wonderful 30 minute buffs.
Anything you can do as a melee type will greatly diminish what the cleric "needs" to do as far as healing goes.
ymmv.
