Do half-elves creep anyone else out?!

I must admit I don't quite get the same impression other users are getting from current h-elves.
Elves from LOTRO gave me a much stronger "pretty-boy" vibe - and they looked finished and well polished.

As they are, h-elves just look raw to me. Unfinished.
Sure, they look "un-manly" - but in the same way an inflatable doll would look.
If they had "pretty boy" looks, there would be something pretty about them.

What's weird about h-elves is, they don't even look like artists tried tweaking existing models - like they did with h-orcs.

H-elves look more like an afterthought.
Devs had a deadline to meet, PAX, they got into crunch mode, and somebody who didn't have the foggiest idea of what a h-elf was supposed to look like, drew the shortest straw.
If anything, they look more like Tieflings, than h-elves.

I don't really know if they should be delayed.
But they sure could use some more artistic love...

Think about it. Some marketing person is talking just to hear his own head rattle, and he says "Gee, Fernando, we're doing really well on the over-30 market, but what we really need is more market penetration in the fifteen-year-old girl demographic! We need an entire game race based off the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC!"

Fernando says "Hmm...penetrating 15 year old girls you say? I like it! Make it happen!"

I really dislike carping on devs' work - but I am afraid they got half elven appearance... well, not quite right.

Maybe it is just me, but I actually find the half-elf look really quite disturbing.

They definitely have an "Uncanny Valley" thing going on, and they give me the creeps.

They don't creep me out.

But then, the whole "Uncanny Valley" effect does not seem to exist for me. I see absolutely nothing creepy or disquieting about Repliee Q2 or Roxxxy. Not that I find either of them particularly attractive, but neither do they give me any unspecified negative feelings. And I find many obviously CGI people, like characters in "Beowulf", very beautiful.

Just for the sake of comparison:




Both anime, both stylised, yet radically different.
And you have a point: if *all* characters consistently looked like Luffy, or Harlock, half elves wouldn't stand out.
It's the dissonance that irks me a bit.

And some of the latest gynoid's pics don't look too uncanny either.
It's something wrong with model proportions and facial/eye textures that gives half elves a strong artificial vibe.

The earliest posts mentioned Odo from Star Trek.
That's telling.

While I do find the Halfelvs to be somewhat unfinished it seems to me to stem from that babysmooth skin with no flaws, blemishs, or wrinkles that plague the other races . That being said I'm gonna wear my helmet in town for sure or I should say hood since I'm almost always a trapmonkey. The Ranger dil works well with the rogue builds by the way. Damage is Signif increased with bows. So if you wanna stay in shadow and still do damage from a dist recomend Rogue Halfelvin ranger dilitante with the storm d mark. this build worked well for me. I know blah blah blah! And i hope to never ever see that picture again!
