    Default Archmage Set Bonus

Does anyone know if they're going to adjust the set bonus for Archmage on Rahkir's belt/ring now that they're adding the PrE? All of the other sets have an extra bonus if you have the third level of the PrE and the TOD set.

check the Lama forums, I'm pretty sure they said something about it.

Edit: That wasn't hard, right in the release notes:

The Archmage set from the Tower of Despair has been updated: "This item is one of two pieces of the Archmage set. When both items are equipped, spells gain a +5% chance to critical hit. All spell critical damage is increased by adding 0.50 to the spell critical damage multiplier. If you also have the Archmage 5 Enhancement, these items will grant a chance to increase your Arcane caster level by 2 for a short duration every time you cast a spell."

Interesting set bonus. Too bad there are so few spells that take advantage of it once you're at 20.

Too bad my splashed caster can't get Archmage 5... increased caster level would be really lovely. But I'd have to drop empower or quicken to fit in a greater spell focus because I never planned on taking MT... and... sooo not doing that.
Please split the class forums into REAL subcategories this is a jumbled mess.

NOBODY can afford Archmage 5 in the current system, it costs 8 AP on the requirements (Conc IV, extra SP IV) and 1 AP for the thing itself, and then another 1 AP and -50SP for whatever rubbish SLA you want to take with it.

Actually, if you're saying that Concentration IV is costing 4 AP by itself, it's actually less... they're changing all the improved skill enhancement costs to 1/1/1/1 rather than 1/2/3/4. Makes the pre-reqs for archmage a little more palatable.

you also don't have to take the spell-like if you don't want to. it *allows* you to take a spell-like, it doesn't *force* you to take it.

Keep in mind that the bonus also applies to buff durations. Having a slightly longer Haste/Displace isn't a bad thing.

That said, I still think it's too weak.

Should be permanent rather than chance based imo.

well, it could be worse. you *could* have the sorcerer rings instead. (oh joy, a single elemental crit bonus that doesn't stack, just what i always wanted on a ring with +1 exceptional strength, and +6 charisma that i already had elsewhere anyways...)

so yeah, if you wanna talk gimped rings and sets, well... i'm afraid you're just going to have to get in line. frankly, *most* of the ToD rings and set bonuses are garbage. just be grateful that yours is less pathetic than most.
