Honestly you dont need either ac or dr. Or you can use both. So long as you have a viable option to deal damage, it really isnt that big of a deal either way.


So about your build. Testing it out solo isnt really giving you much information. The next step is to fill the party and test it out, see how you hold up. Then do it elite, when its scaled all the way up, then with a full party on elite. If you pass all these tests, and you think your build is teh shiznet, ask that full party to stop standing at the entrance and help you complete the quest. This, is the ultimate test. If your build can still perform on max dungeon scaling with a bunch of pile-trying to hold you back

I actually surprised myself yesterday.
I was in the bloody crypt on hard with a full party, tanked through the whole thing and tanked the boss for 5 minutes until they found the heart. Didn't need healing once. Took less than 50 damage total. I'd try it on elite but I'm a bit too lazy to run that chain again.

Basically, I was the thing the enemies were attacking the whole time. Just go into a room, intimidate, few steps back and swing.

As for the boss, I just ****ed him off and lured him under the stairs until they found the heart.


Anyway, to settle the whole issue, just try to get everything as high as you can. You can't go wrong with 10000 hp 200 ac 100 dr and 100% fort (Yes i know a lot of that isn't possible. Thanks for ruining my fun you literal people)

From a relatively newb perspective, been playing ~2 months, highest character before this current run in DDO was level 7.

I'd give the guy -some- slack, I've been playing PNP D&D for a long time (18 years & counting, 15 as a DM) & MMO's in general since 99 & I thought I was sailing with a 45ac & 400hp at 15 lol. If it is your first character you don't understand that the learning curve is different for DDO than other games. You do an even level quest on hard here and get loot that woulda been useful 3-5 levels ago, if you've played other games that isn't the norm. I'm not saying that is a bad or good thing, it is just the way it is.

There is a very fine line on the level up where you go from "pretty good" to "OMG I'm getting ripped" as a tank. And it is right around level 14/15. I see builds with 100+ ac from Quik and I still O_O just a bit.

It reminisces EQ a bit when an expansion came out, absolute top end was getting plastered in the new content. As you cross level increase thresholds here its very noticeable, but slightly more forgiving.

Luckily I play with a static group (Bonk the butcher rogue, intimtank (Me) and a sorc with hirelings) and there have been maybe 2 quests we've not been able to finish on hard at appropriate level up to 17 where we are now and I just this morning managed to break 53ac (Thanks cheap Chaosgarde guy, wherever you are!). By that same token, we don't intend on raiding, generally too much drama & play style difference.
