What happens to guild if leader doesnt log on anymore?

What happens to a guild if the leader stops playing suddenly and doesn't log on anymore?
What if successor is an alt?
What if successor is another person?
What if no successor?
Lets say its a big guild with 500 members and 50 officers?

As far as i know the officers can recruit but no one could make anyone an officer so if officers left 1 by one the guild would die off as members left too?

If thats the case there should be something in place so if leader doesnt log on for a month the successor becomes leader or failing that the highest level officer? If former leader logs back on they automatically become leader again?

After the leader has been absent a certain amount of time the successor gets an "Usurp" option to take leadership of the guild. They are now the permanent leader unless they transfer leadership or it is usurped by the successor they choose. Big guilds and small guilds work the same way.

A guild leader that has one of his/her alts as the successor is an issue.
A successor that no longer plays is an issue.
If you have either of those issues, correct them or find a new guild.

If you are locked into a leaderless, successorless guild, the only thing you can do is recruit/kick with current officers. Creating a new guild is your only option for changing officers if you cannot convince your leader or successor to come back to fix it.

If you get lucky and someone in your guild can contact your guild leader you might be able to get him to log on long enough to change successor to one of you and step down, but that might be a long shot if your leader and all of his close buddies are inactive.
