    Lightbulb Better/More Realistic Treasure

Ok, wanted to suggest a couple of obvious, though not game breaking improvements, but would add some nice verisimilitude to game with treasure/loot.

First, if there are huge piles of gold lying around for me to loot from, how about having us get 100s and thousands of gold, instead of a few coins and random kitchen drawer items. Seriously, this annoys me to no end, piles of gold = treasure laden adventurers, I'd even buy a bag of looting to get realistic amounts of gold and gems from these. it's just annoying.

On a similar line, when looting/pillaging temples and cathedrals and castles and stuff, how about throwing in some solid gold statues, and priceless tapestries jeweled relics and other objects d'art from it. You even have models you could use from Repossession and stuff.. You could even have a gold statue on a pillar that sets of a trap if you don't swap a bag of sand for it, or something (where's my giant rolling boulder trap!, I spend a lot of time raiding for lost arks and stuff). I'm pretty sure there are some loot tables you could steal from an old DMG or the SRD too.

    Thank you, drive thru.

would make it way way way too easy to get cash, unless they just made the piles supersmall.
Working crafted handwraps, that would be nice. Anytime soon.

while we're at it, we could kill named cats & get.. um... some wiggly string (casts fascinate 3x per rest on cat-type creatures), catnip toy (charm effect on cats, or maybe a paralysis/bliss effect?) & a hairball (throw it for a web-like stuck effect)
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Well, considering that most piles of gold are under dragons. That's not too bad, just gimp us on vendor trash weaps or something.

thanks for your thread **** contribution. I don't see how having treasure amounts being thematically appropriate end reward is at all a give away. It would make it actually worthwhile for people to bother loot piles of gold. And it could be balanced versus any chest loot. Seriously, giving a few hundred or several thousand more gold instead of a few k plat of worth of vendor trash weaps would be a nice change of pace. Also, go look up verisimilitude, and I'm sure you could extrapolate a few other ideas.

Actually, most of the piles of gold are in dank wet areas...I'm surprised the treasure isn't all rusty and moldy like the weapons you get from Jeets in Shipwreck Shore.

Gold is incorruptable and doesn't corrode or tarnish, that's why 'treasure' hauled out of shipwrecks can be bright and shiny after hundreds of years ( unless it's covered with barnacles).
Once tried opening a shoe shop for beholders, when that didn't work out I decided to hit stuff with lumps of sharpened metal instead.

I always just imagined that with current mint standards, a lot of the hoarded gold just wasn't worth their weight!

That reference was simply too good to not give a +Rep too.

I think the reason you only get relatively small sums from the piles is that theres very little REAL treasure in there, the rest of it is worthless brass covered with a basic glamour spell on it, just the draconic "argos bling" equivalent & not worth the effort of picking up - the decent stuff is kept in chests that at least have the semblance of security, rather than just chucked around the floor, where you're essentially picking up pocket change & stuff thats fallen down between cushions on the sofa.

Admittedly, i've heard of people finding good items from gold piles too... maybe they're the ones owned by juvenile dragons who just throw everything including the PSP/laptop/mobile into heaps in their rooms before mummy dragon tells them to tidy their rooms?
