I couldn't do it. My dad told me once that he'd done that when he was younger, not nearly that high up, though. Personally, I think my dad was full of bs on an epic level after watching that.

It's not as bad as it looks due to the fish eye lens, but there's no way in hell I'd ever do it.

I have had to work on 75 to 150ft Towers in
the refinery and when the weather got bad it was pretty hairy.

I greatly "dislike" heights in any fashion... a phobia most likely.
    That and really tight places...
but that goes to being in the bunkers in 90-91.

Get a feeling of being... "Trapped."

But that's neither here nor there...

The Key is to focus on the work and not the enviroment.

I salute them for doing the job. It is folks like them that keep the world running.

    Don't count on it...

My dad is 79 overweight and has had quadruple bypass
and has bad Hip... (Its now titanium and we call him robo-dad... )

But check his records and you will find some interesting facts...

He rode rodeo and trains (as a Hobo) for a number of years after he left home...at the age of 13
Worked as a Migrant Farmer for a Number of years untl he was Drafted.

He was an Army Ranger... and worked in EOD. (Explosive Ordanance disposal.) "Ka-BOOM!"
(Viet nam 65 to 67) retired after 20 years...

He was a POW and Once took on 3 Enemy soldiers
Single-handed in Hand to hand combat...

He was also one of the founding members of the "Hells Angels" motorcyle club...
(He some of the other military guys left when things started going south...
They tried to turn things around but when it got to the point they couldn't,
the chose to leave, since they didn't want any part of the badness...)

And he drove a Truck for well over 40 Years I think...

So... I say again...Don't count on it...

My dad, uncles, and I used to climb ranger towers in the woods. Those are about 2/3 the height and much wider at the base, and even then they swayed 6-8 inches in the wind. When youre up that high you can feel it moving. It must not have been too windy when the video was made, heh.

The hiking trail doesn't bother me. I've worked many times from hanging scaffolding or tied off to the steel of a building, up to about 350 feet. It's not until I get about 500 feet off the ground that vertigo starts to kick in for me.

After watching that video, I'm thinking three things....

    one-

King Kong. What if air planes started flying nearby, is he gonna hold onto the tower with one hand and swap at them with the other? Maybe Turbine wants to back a game based on this, BUT, if the game lags a lot, exactly how long would we have to wait for him to climb to the top!? Hmmm scratch that thought....

    two-

Lightening. It is not looking like a very sunny day in that video. I would imagine if it started to thunderstorm , that it might be QUITE a danger in itself. Can't exactly call a "time out" at 1700 ft!!

    three-

    Grease clickie, anyone!?

ok as bad as that was, I cant even think of how the climb down would be. More tired, and harder to properly place your feet...

i see the space elevatior is coming along nicely...

seriously tho hats off to them folks, this looks like a realy fun job to do and i bet it pays well. ive chucked me self out of a plane and that looks about as high up, you could definately parachute from there.

and as regards people being old and physical wrecks (ie folks dads) you gota ask the question - what have they done to make them such physical wrecks now.. time takes its toll guys and old injuries add up ;-)

If there were a million dollars at the top of that pole, I would not climb it.

If you told me I could make my main caster level 40, and I could walk around public areas and FoD random people, I would not climb it.

If you told me I could take over as God, I would not climb it.

Those people are absolutely insane. Nobody should have to have that job.
